hi guys I overheated last year when my idler pulley went and overhauled the engine i decided to do top and bottom as there was a lot wrong with the car and i had hit 300k on the car. entire job has taking months only finished it now
just got my car back and it is pissing white smoke out of the exhaust and burning oil like crazy
Did do new rings and honing of sleeves
the diagnostics is picking up a misfire on cylinder 3 and cyl 1
on inspection of the new plugs cyl 3's plug is full of oil and cyl 1, the rest are fine no oil on plugs
car is pulling strong and feels like it has a lot of power especially considering the misfire (although i did vanos seals at same time and probably just didnt realize how much power i was lacking before the overhaul)
I have a new cvv and obviously did valve stem seals when doing the head so cant be smoking because of that, doesnt look likes its burning coolant 'but instead oil
clearly my problem here are the rings. my question is what is my best option now, i am not sure if the rings are just duds and perhaps just sealing bad due to poor quality or bad luck or if the sleeves are too big due to honing and i am now in need of over sized pistons or new sleeves of which either are going to be costly.
car was done by ex bm mechanic, he claims that awhile back he had a 4 cylinder that smoked after an overhaul for 2 weeks (first 1000km's) and thereafter enough carbon built up on sleeves to stop oil from getting through he reckons i took a shortcut by not doing sleeves and should give it 1000km to see if it seals
the whole 1000km story with carbon building up to me sounds like bull dust i do know carbon does build up and i do know the rings may need to seat still but i am now on minimum oil on the dipstick after only 200km and this sounds highly unlikely that that much carbon will build up and create the seal while the rings seat in. i am looking for some fanatic advice here cannot explain my frustration here
