in rushour driving my 320d auto rarely goes over 2500rpm before the gear change, and then i am not really going slow, still overtaking a lot of other cars. The revs are then approx 1750rpm @ 100km/h. 80% Rush hour driving.
So this made me think a bit when i drove with my step dad in his x3 2.0d yesterday, it does seem to be revved a bit higher during normal driving, maybe just his way of driving.
So here is my theory :
Given similar driving enviroments an auto 320d will be stressed less than a 320d manual, and if both are looked after properly and serviced when due, an auto version can last longer than a manual version, purely because the revs are kept lower over a long period. LESS TOTAL REVS = LESS WEAR
