Fellow fanatics, time sure flies when you having fun....
Its been exactly a year since I bought my white 2009 135i Coupe N54 manual and I have thoroughly enjoyed the car. Since I have approx. 9 months left on motorplan and after thinking long and hard, I finally decided not to extend my motorplan on the current car, and to go for a silver 2010 135i Coupe M-Sport pre-LCI N55 manual.
It was a tough decision since my car ran like a dream and I only had the warning light come on once for a vaccum pipe that the motorplan sorted out without stress. So I found the N55 and went to test drive at the dealer who allowed me to take the car for a nice long test drive and I came back even more confused.
Firstly the N55 sounds way meaner from cold start but the N54 definitely sounds meaner under acceleration and feels more aggressive between 2000 and 4000rpm. The N55 felt more willing to rev pass 5500 and has a nice turbo hiss and faint dumping sound on gear changes. The N55's turbo is more audible than the turbos on the N54 (probably because the N55's exhaust seems quieter)
Its really hard to say which is a better motor, and both are awesome in their own right, and both have the iconic I/L six that BMW is famous for. I will definitely miss my N54 cause it was my 1st ever BMW and it will always be sentimental.
Here's to my next BMW chapter
