During a recent oil service of my car (E70 X5 4.8i), I was informed that there is a recall campaign on all E70 X5 vehicles with the N62TU engine model years Sep 2006 - Mar 2010 (i.e 4.8i and X5M models with V8 petrol engines).
BMW will replace the brake booster vacuum lines through which engine oil can enter the brake booster. If oil contamination of the brake booster has already occurred, the brake booster itself will also be replaced as the membrane can become damaged.

My dealer told me they will need the car for 2 days to do this work at their cost.
I must say that I have recently noticed that the brake booster seems to lose vacuum rather quickly, the pedal becomes hard after standing overnight. I have also noticed slightly increased oil consumption.
Hmmm, maybe I will be getting a new brake booster courtesy of BMW SA.
Fellow 4.8i or X5 M owners should take note and approach their dealers for this recall campaign to be done on their vehicles.
