so after struggling VERY long and hard to find a Thread on this and other forums as how to replace the rear 6x9's in your Mini, so if that was one of your questions- yes the rear speakers are 6x9's and the front speakers are 6'' speakers.
when wanting to replace the rear speakers you need to start with removing the rear seats, i found this task not as hard as i thought it would be, start by removing the bottom part of it, you can just pull this out as there are no bolts or nuts holding this bad boy down, after getting it out you have to take the back rest part of it out. flatten them, you will see between the 2 seats, slightly hidden there is a 10mm bolt, after loosening this you will be able to lift another little plate which holds the seats down, i just used the spanner to lift that.
lift the seats up, you will see that at a +-45' angle you will be able to pull the seat out away from the side,
after taking out both seats, take out the 6 screws in the boot that hold the quarter panel, i then moved to the front of the panel by the front door, i started lifting the panel away from the body of the car and the clips started coming out and i gained access to the speaker, same with the other side, the speakers are tightened with a nr. 7 spanner. when i took the panel off none of my clips broke, might have been lucky there, these clips are easy to find and cheap so you can go and buy somewhere if one of your clips broke.
i hope this helped someone out there who had the question around replacing rear speakers on a Mini.
i will posting a thread shortly on the replacement of the front speakers.
they are held there by a torque screw and i dont have the tools to remove that.
