Petrol price to drop
THE retail price of all grades of petrol will fall 8c/l from Wednesday, the Department of Energy’s Central Energy Fund said on Friday. The wholesale price of diesel will drop by 3.98c/l.
Unleaded 95-octane petrol in Gauteng will then cost R12.39 a litre, while at the coast it will cost R12.02 a litre. At the start of May, the retail price of all grades of petrol was cut by 73c/l, while the wholesale price of 0.05% sulphur diesel was reduced by 55.56c/l.
From April 26 to May 30, the period under review‚ the average international product prices of petrol‚ diesel and illuminating paraffin had all decreased.
The average rand/dollar exchange rate weakened to R9.2987 compared with R9.1598 in the April period, R9.1932 in the March period and R8.9067 in the February period.
The weakening of the rand against the dollar increased the contribution to the basic fuels price on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 10.52c/l, 10.82c/l and 10.69c/l, respectively.
The single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will decrease by 1c/l, while the maximum retail price of liquid petroleum gas will decrease by 5c/kg, the department said.
