The importance of camshaft and o2 sensors!

So I need to share my recent experience with you guys when it comes to camshaft and o2/lambda sensors....
As some of you may know, I purchased Johan's (Solo Man's) e36 318is. Now I noticed something on my drive back from collecting the car in Hermanus to Jhb, I was cruising between 120-140kph max but I struggled to even get 480km's on a tank which was really concerning as I kinda have an idea of what consumption on these cars should be like.
So I usually get a full service done on a new car which includes, plugs, filters, belts, oil etc just to make sure the car is in good health however this time round it still didn't resolve the issue around the poor fuel consumption. In fact there was a time when it hit 19,7l/100km.
Some further diagnostics revealed that the camshaft and o2 sensors could possibly be the issue, initially the camshaft sensor was changed and this dropped the consumption to around 13-14l/100km which I thought was an improvement but still not ideal as my E46 M3 returns better consumption.
Next was the o2 sensor and to my relief and joy all my problems were solved.

I've done abit of mixed driving since then and the consumption is stuck on 7,3-7,5l/100km Joy
In love again with my fellow e36 Inlove
