Cape Town - A teenager has been arrested in Cape Town for drag-racing against an undercover traffic officer in the city.
The 16-year-old - who is too young to hold a driver’s licence - took his brother’s Nissan Sabre without permission, the Cape Argus reported.
The teen stopped at traffic lights on Klipfontein Road next to a white unmarked VW Golf GTI and revved his engine, signalling to the other driver that he wanted to race.
Unfortunately for the teen, VW car’s driver was a member of the city’s ghost squad. After speeding off, the teen was arrested for reckless and negligent driving.
Officers also arrested several others who had gathered for drag-racing around the city.
Last year, three children died when a motorist allegedly lost control of a car while drag racing in Mpumalanga.
Musician Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye was found guilty two years ago of killing four schoolchildren while drag racing in Soweto in 2010.
