Decided it was time to replace mine. Wanted to do it for ages and decided to just buy it and do it.
Need:
BMW Window cowling (R900.00 @ 20% discount)
15mm socket wrench
Flat head screwdriver
Masking tape
Brush and old rag to wipe(optional)
Here are some before shots:
Step 1:
take the Masking tape and mark the top edges of the wiper blades. This will ensure you re-install them correctly.
Step 2:
Open the bonnet. Take your flat head screwdriver and remove the two cover clips on the wipers.
Step 3:
Take the 15mm socket wrench and remove the two bolts.
Step4:
Undo the 3 clips on the micro filter cover. They just twist and pop up.
Step 5:
Remove the cover and the filter.
Step 6:
Remove the wiper blades. This can be done by either wiggling them from side to side to free them up a bit (this only somewhat worked for me). Rather press down on the hinge of the blade just above the bolt that was loosen earlier and use the screwdriver with a rag to protect the car to push it up and remove them.
Step 7:
You will note that there is a C-clip and a washer that needs to be removed. Use the flat head screwdriver to remove them. The second clip shows them removed.
Step 8:
Now we can remove the cowling by slowly pulling up from the sides and making our way to the middle.
A pic or two to show how filthy it had become underneath:
If any clips have been left in the body (two white clips) use pliers to pull them out.
Off the car:
You will note a rubber strip at the bottom. This must be taken off and put on the new cowling!
Old, new and rubber removed to fit on new cowling
Step 9:
Use the brush and rag to clean.
Step 10:
Put the rubber on the new cowling
Step 11:
Put the new cowling on and gently tap the clips in place.
Step 12:
replace the washer and C-clip.
Step 13:
Replace the wipers making sure they line up with your tape. If you press exactly where I am pressing on the pic they should just pop in.
Step 14:
Replace nuts and caps.
Step 15:
Replace the micro filter and cover.
Step 16:
step back and admire your work (Yes my car is dirty)
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers
