Hi guys
I thought I would start a thread for advice for any one thinking of going on holiday business etc, etc.
I normally use apps such as trip advisor and four square but this time when I went, it was all wrong. So I would like to share some advice on Zanzibar which I personally experienced.
For those concerned about Malaria and Yellow fever, no need to stress too much. Finland has been extensively treating the whole Island for this and there is zero cases reported these days.
1. Should 1 spend money going there?
Absolutely YES
It's a once off experience that one must do.
2. Get your self a Vodacom sim card b4 you leave as this is the only network we can use here and there
3. On arrival in Zanzibar you may feel scared as suddenly might seemed surrounded by the locals and think you are in trouble But this is not the case. Its a very poor country with people who live quality lives but simple.
Avoid porters as tips in $ become compulsory.
You might find prices high in town, tours etc etc and yes, that is the case as they know you are a foreigner and triple prices. SO BARGAIN UNTIL YOU ARE HAPPY
There main Island income is tourism and exporting of spices.
4. There are zero gun owners on the island except for the army.
5. I went with the locals to a beach party and these guys made sure me and my wife was well take care off at all times.
Beach party is held on a resort with lots of locals and foreigners. Very nice.
6. Driving is a whole new ball game. They make our taxi drivers look like angels but you are safe as they have almost no accidents and do not even drive over 100km/h.
7. Try and book with a all incl package.....saves you money.
Things you should do:
. Scuba diving or snorkling
. Swimming with wild dolphins(Best experience of my life)
. Spice tour
. Other than that......just have a good time.
I hope this advice helps someone. If you need to add or correct me in any way, please do so.
Good luck.
