Hi Guys,
I need some advice.
I have an e46 320d, thursday I got diesel from a garage, they have a reputation for selling dodgy diesel, so I never use them, without thinking i accidently bought diesel from them thursday morning.
Had to go see some clients, so i drove about 100km and then saw that my car is smoking a lot more than normal, there is normally a bit of black smoke, like with most diesel cars, this was much worse, when you pull of from a stop or traffic light theres A LOT of smoking. I then realised that it is probably from the fuel as there was nothing wrong with it until that batch of diesel.
I bought 2 glass containers, bought diesel from a caltex, then went back to the garage where i got the dodgy diesel from, got a sample from them as well, the caltex diesel is perfect, looks like diesel, smells like diesel. the other sample is a lot thinner, theres a colour difference and you can see small flakes of stuff floating around in it, it also smells like pariffin. I showed them the samples and they said that the product they sell is perfect even though you can see and smell that it isnt.
I took the diesel to a reputible diesel injection service centre to get some advice, they confirmed that there is parriffin in the diesel. Also said that i could damage the pistons, injectors, head gasket and turbo as the pariffin does not lubricate properly, burns hotter and is a much more aggressive fuel than diesel, apparently becuase it burns hotter exhuast gasses will also be hotter which can damage the oils seals on the turbo. We drained the diesel, filled up with normal diesel bt he said that the damage might already be done becuase of the excess smoke. It seemed to be a bit better after filling again with proper diesel.
Had to go to heidelberg Saturday morning, halfway there, turbo failure....
I have the two samples of the diesel, about 500ml of the caltex diesel and 500ml of the other diesel.
I saw online that you can buy a diesel test kit to test for pariffin, where can i find one of these?
Also, if it does test positive for pariffin that shouldnt be there, who can i contact to go and check the diesel, like a diesel inspector from sasol or shell maybe...
And the last question, I filmed the whole thing on my phone when i got the sample from them, so i have on video that the fuel comes from there pumps. so can i try to get the garage to cover the cost involved to get my car sorted, bmw will probably charge me an arm and 2 legs to fix it....
Any advice would be appreciated
