DIY: E90 Welcome Lights and DRL

Hi Guys,

This DIY has been on bimmerforums for a while, but not really e90 specific and lots of different ways to do it.

Early E90s did not have these features and its not possible to activate them via coding.

Basically I have the following:

E90 330d 2006
Auto Lights
Xenons
(I fitted aftermarket LED angel eye bulbs)

It has the follow me home light function and the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) that used both the angel eyes and xenons... thats about it.

What I wanted:

DRLs that only use the angel eyes and not the xenons too
The angel eyes as Welcome lights as I unlock the vehicle.

I will put up a full DIY if you guys want, but it took less than 2 hours to get the result I wanted.

I have very limited electrical knowledge, i sometimes find wiring a plug to be a challenge.

I needed:
About 6m of wiring
4 silicon diodes 200v/1A
a soldering iron
Insulation tape
heat shrink

I ran the angel eyes from the drivers footwell lighting for the welcome lights and from the 12v socket in the armrest for the DRLs.

I'll add a shockingly narrated video shortly.

So what I now have is the following.

Lights stay on auto.
at unlock during the day or night the angel eyes light up
driving during the day sees only the angel eyes on.
at dusk the xenons automatically come on.
at night i can still activate the follow me home lights as normal .

let me know if you want a full DIY.
