Ok so quick review of the 2014 base cayman pdk
Note this car is not the fastest... But I can't not help wanting to drive it everytime ... Its just so enjoyable Even if it is to buy bread at 9pm (which I did)
The chassis is sporty without being harsh and Porsche got this spot on. Many manufacturers get it either too hard or too soft with their sports cars. Porsche got a perfect balance. Build quality is amazing, solid no rattles, you know this is a premium product as soon as you get in an drive off
I drove the new 991 some time back when I contemplated replacing my 997.2 Gts and I was slightly disappointed in it feeling too refined. The cayman is the perfect balance between comfort and sportiness
The engine note is amazing... And it surprised me... Sounds way better than the GTS carrera... Almost GT3 like... The gearbox is another improvement over the carrera GTS.... In the later I always drive it in auto because there was a slight delay in pressing the pedal and the electronics telling the car to change gears... The cayman crisp slick gear changes and begs you to drive it with the paddles. Dct is good but this is awesome, not quite 458 but almost... And here I am comparing a cayman to a 911. Blasphemy... But I honestly think this cayman is more engaging than a 911... And so do many sales folk at porsche...
Handling... Like a cart on rails.... You'd expect that from a mid engined car
So performance... Low down it has little torque, but hit 4000rpm and it comes alive... And then this awesome mechanical sound all the way to redline being 7400rpm I think or higher, can't recall. Think rxi corolla, with the kick coming in higher up the Rev counter ... The gt3 rs had this similar character... Speed wise Def quicker than your g7 gti etc... Feels similar to an m3 e92... But sure slower... Difficult to say...
Few thing that irritated me was the pcm... A burned cdr with mp3s on it caused the radio not to turn on at times... Only figured this out recently and I thought the unit was faulty... And its a Porsche issue. Their head units are very sensitive to media formats... Physical media... But with the car being fairly newish (having launched towards the end of last year) these are all teething problems which I'm sure Porsche will address with firmware upgrades
Next to do on my list is the wheels... Hate the 18s, they look too small... So looking for a set of oem classic 20" wheels
All in all a brilliant car... That I'd rate higher than a 911. it is an almost perfect daily car and has a sporty punch to it... It needs to be slightly quicker, but it's not a deal breaker and I have driven the s version and that's perfect minus belive it or not a slightly worse sounding exhaust
Excuse my grammar and spelling as I typed this from my phone
