Seats are easy right, they have a couple of motors, maybe a control unit....
On the E60 these seats or a ngithmare, I know nobody is going to care, but I need to vent this to somebody...
I did a upgrade to comfort seats on the E60, and had an annoying error light I just could never sort out.
Now, there are 3 modules involved, SBSL, SBSR and SFZ, thats just for the airbags, let alone the actual seat control for which there are SMFA and SMFB modules
Logic would dictate that they would comebine at least some of these functions, like keep left of car together and so for.
NOOOOOO.
You generate errors on the LHS of the car, such as a seat ocupancy sensor, and you have a fault on the right and left.
The thing that kept me busy for ages
The SBSL, or left side, only has one pre-tentioner, thats 2 wires, done and dusted, bobs your grandma.
but the drivers side had 2.
Now one would figure 2 cicruits, or at the very least in paralell.
WRONG
The one on the LHS closes to the door (ZK3) fires ont he SBSL,
The one ont he right, closest to the gear lever, fires on the SZL module, and thats Zk1
Tis like WTF....
OH and Zk1 reports that it is an head restraint, which i figured was retrofitted on the comfort seats and will need to be uncoded.
I am now done for the day and cannot no more, but this is extremly interesting, why cant they just make it simple and easy.
To make matters worse, I butchered the wires on the seat retrofit, but somebody else butchered them for me before, so its a down right mess....
Going to need at least another 10 hours of diagnostics and fiddling...
All this for a stupid airbag light.
And no, you cant just turn the airbag off in NCS, as it caused problems further down the line....
anybody have any indebth experiance ont his,
Oh and my battery on my fancy multi meter is going out, so I have been getting interesting readings all evening.
Thank god I do this for a hobby and not on customers cars, I would frikken loose it.
In all fairness though, I can stip all of the electronics, including all 4 seats of an E60 in under an hour.
Takes me 3 minutes to reinstall a radio, hvac control, trims sand panels...
