E39 Manual gearbox help please

I had the clutch kit replaced around three months ago. Within two months, the gear lever collapsed while driving. The car was out of gear and couldn't be driven. A gear link clip popped out of the lever!

The BMW mechanic who did the clutch simply did not show any concern that he could have slipped up while putting the gearbox together after fitting the clutch kit.

I had to locate a new clip and get another mechanic to fit it for me! Today, the gear lever collapsed again! This time the car was able to move but I seemed to have burned the clutch after a few minutes of trying to get the car to a safe place.

Is the clutch plate completely destroyed? It is only four months old. Should I take it back to the BMW mechanic and tell him that I think he is responsible for the gear link lever problem or should I go elsewhere and get it fixed properly?

It is so frustrating and scary to think that a little clip could pop out of the gear lever so easily. I am grateful I wasn't on the highway or far from home when this happened.

Has anyone had experience with this problem? Any advice would be appreciated.
