Hi Member's
As the Topic say's I would like to know the Pro's and Con's of Each as I am looking at converting to Pre Paid.
Id like views from Members that have had experience with Both or that know the best way to bring down a Bill.
Currently I am Billed by COJ (City Of Johannesburg) and there rates are,
Step 1 0-492.813kWh @ R0.9454
Step 2 0-492.813kWh @ R0.9705
Step 3 0-40.614kWh @ R0.9913
The above is my last bill which I am told is based on an Average estimated spend in my situation which is 34.208kWh per day.
I use 26kWh per day (I worked out actually from my meter)
They come out every 6 Months to re work the estimation.
I find that I am also billed the following,
Service Charge @ R254.61
Network Charge @ R98.94
Demand Side Management Levy @ R5.33
Total Additional Charges for Electricity = R358.88pm
To summarize the above
PostPaid Electricity from the COJ,
1.Electricity usage is based on a revolving 6 Month cycle of Average usage (Benefit to some people)
2. Additional Charge of R358.88pm
3. Cost Per "kWh" increases every 492.813kWh to another Step resulting in a Higher cost for total usage.
I have spoken to COJ and they can not give me much info over the phone but did inform me that I can move to Post Paid at a cost of +-R3500 (Once Off) and then wont need to pay the Additional Charges of R358.88pm and will be charged a Fixed Step Rate of +-R0.6kWh
If the Above is true then the cost needed to change over will be recuperated in 10 Months and a marginal saving will result from Month one,
I.E My current Bill for using 1026.24kWh was R984.45 but if I had been on the Pre Paid and working on R0.6 per 1kWh then I would have Paid R615.744 (These exclude the Additional Charge)
Total Post Paid for the Month R1531.40
Total Pre Paid for the Month R615.744
Total Saving R915.66
Can anyone confirm the figures I have been given by COJ and there claims with regards to the Additional Cost Per Month and that I would be on a flat Step Rate of R0.6
Thanks for Reading and for the advice in Advance
