Hi All,
Need some help with regards to some legacy wiring from the previous owner of my car.
Situation:
Boot light isn't working (never did since I bought it, but always forgot about it when I went to service the car). I remembered on this occasion and asked BMW to sort it out.
They give me the following response (after checking):
"As far as we could ascertain , non- approved wiring have been fitted to the battery , (also tapping into the wiring harness) would appear that it could be a tracking device . This have been attached to the boot light fitting as well."
So, I asked the tracker company and they came and investigated said its not the tracker, therefore its some sound installation stuff. Bought car in Durban from a fellow charou so its a likely reason.
So, I'm in the following pickle, BMW wants the wiring back to BMW standards and have said it will have MP implications if not sorted out.
I have the following options:
1) Car when purchased went through the full BMW check before motorplan handover. I can start throwing a fuss that this should have been picked up at the check up and at every service since I got the car. They have quoted me roughly 4k to sort the issue out.
Pros: I feel righteous
Cons: Protracted battle with BMW with no clear outcome
2) Pay a respected audio install shop to sort out the issue out to bmw standards
Pros: Cheaper?
Cons: I don't know any respectable shops and not sure how much it should cost
3) Sort it out myself.
Pros: Super cheap if it works out.
Cons: I have no clue what I'm doing, but I'm a quick learner
So fanatics, I'm leaning towards option 2 or 3. Can someone please advise which option I should go for and recommend either audio shops or DIY guides that would be useful?
Thanks!
