Tail light clusters on E46

Hi All!

I am new to the forum as I bought my first BMW last week.
320i E46 in almost mint condition with only 120k on the clock.

The brown No 2 wire on both tail light clusters has burnt off the mail pin.
I have ordered 2 new clusters from BMW.

My question is, once I have replaced the clusters, how can I prevent them from burning the male pins again?

At first I thought the fuses were too big, which could result in the damage to the tail light clusters, but they are all in order.

I did notice that the brown wire on the pig tails is thicker than the other wires.

Any suggestions?
