Pretoria - A “copy” police vehicle with four alleged fake policeman is prowling the greater Centurion area.
Police confirmed on Thursday that they had launched a hunt for the vehicle and its occupants after it was allegedly involved in the hijacking of a man in Monument Park on Wednesday.
Crime prevention, and CPF pages on social networks were abuzz last week, warning residents of the fake marked police vehicle, also claiming that the occupants were armed and dangerous.
Police spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale confirmed last week that all police stations had been advised to look out for the Golf 6.
At that stage it was reported that the vehicle registration number was BSF079B and the call sign number was RR1117.
On Wednesday a man was allegedly hijacked by the occupants of the fake police vehicle. It was alleged that the man, who was driving a marked company bakkie, was stopped by the fake police vehicle.
Police spokeswoman Lieutenant Linda Jerling confirmed the hijacking.
“Police have launched a manhunt for suspects posing as members of the SAPS that robbed a member of the public of his vehicle and cash. It is suspected that they used a vehicle with false police markings and a blue light,” she said.
“Members of the public are warned not to confront the suspects if they see them because they are believed to be armed and dangerous but should rather phone the nearest police station or contact 10111,” Jerling said.
