I am not the chat-to-random -strangers kinda guy but that usually changes when I see something I like and want(usually a car). Under those circumstances I become very spontaneous and bold which, sometimes leads to the conclusion of a very favourable transaction ..sometimes not. Thats how I bought my ex e30 325is and 325i and e46M convertible. this short funny story is about one of those not so positive ends but it is still very funny nonetheless.
Bit of of background: you can generally spot owners of desirables cars who have no clue as to the value of their vehicles and they are seldom aware of how desireable their vehicle is ( if it indeed falls into that category). Those are best people to approach with a low "on the spot" offer.
This past weekend, while sitting at one of my favorite coffee shops a white 1M pulls into the parking lot. The "moment of boldness brought by Doritos" hit and and it hit hard so I immediately approached the owner with a broad smile and an ridiculous offer in mind. Based On his girlfriend 's driving style - because she was driving- and based on the way they treated the car, I assumed they had no idea of the value of the vehicle.
We had a brief but cordial exchange and 20 minutes later my phone rang. After disposing of the pleasantries and necessary brown- nosing the owner proclaims that he and the girlfriend had a discussion that same morning about selling and that it was so coincidental that I approached him. He goes on to say... " you know bra...people they buy these cars for investment cos they limited so I will probly sell similar...my price is 1.3 as is"
My response: "Million...".
His reply " ...ja, the going rate...1.3"
I ask again...." Million? Response "Ja"
Cough, cough
Seems I might have had the " dude knows nothing" look on my face on Saturday.
