On Sunday I took the plunge & treated my E90 330i to some Promotec magic.
On a N/A car, you need to keep your expectations in check.
You’re not going to get the crazy gains 330d/335s get since they’re turbo’d.
I was well aware of this & read GregSW’s feedback (Link below).
One line stood out for me:
This was my main goal as the car always felt a bit hesitant.
Philip will agree as we’ve had this convo several times, there also seems to be an ‘Econo mode’ (for lack of a better name) where the hesitation is even worse but it only happens when driving slowly/normally & suddenly giving gas to overtake quickly. As if it was first asking, “Are you sure you want to floor it?” before giving the power as requested.
Rolf assured me that the Sporty mix would improve responsiveness and fuel economy. While I can’t speak for economy yet as I’m too busy enjoying my newfound power, the responsiveness is unbelievable.
It revs smoothly to my newly raised redline & it wants to keep going.
My car always handled well & it was never slow but now it delivers the power better. It’s always ready & waiting, eager to rev til she screams.
As soon as I can control myself, I’ll monitor consumption figures and report back but for now, I plan on enjoying every second.
Even pulling out of my garage I can feel a difference, the car really is more eager. This might be a coincidence but I’ve lost traction twice already, which rarely occurs.
I’m sure Rolf can attest to this but after the test drive, I hade a huge grin on my face.
