2014 f30 320d consumption

$

So as some will know i do this trip monthly and is a good comparison over a distance to the different vehicles i drive (have driven).
The best i have ever had was the 2013 f30 320d that managed a 4.2l/100km first stretch and ending with 4.4l/100km at the end.
Last time out it was the f30 328i 2litre petrol car that ended at 6.0l/100km.
Enter 2014 F30 320d auto 8speed that now has the coasting feature and running on Sasol 10ppm diesel.
We leave Vereeniging, set to ECO PRO because coasting only works on this setting, and set speedocruise to 105km/h as the road has a legal limit of 100km/h. It's all about the car i am just a passenger now.
After 66km at an average of 100.2km/h i have to take an image because i have never been in a car that can register 3.9l/100km.

I carry on to Potch and that consumption continues till i get to the Potch mall and consumption now reads 3.8l/100km at ave. 97.9km/h.

Head towards Klerksdorp with a 10km stretch of 80km/h before road becomes 120km/h.We stop at first traffic lights in Klerksdorp and see 3.9l/100km ave. speed 94.0km/h.The Potch town of 12 traffic lights and the 10km stretch of 80km are responsible for the average that has dropped.

Go do some shopping, visit and head back.
We get back having gone back up (Klerksdorp is 300mts altitude lower than Vereeniging)and end with a distance of 272km at 4.2l/100km.

The car shows a range is available of 1357km.
This test shows how frugal the F30 320d is,that 10ppm diesel cannot be all that bad,and that the 2litre diesel is 30% lighter on fuel usage than the 2litre petrol car.
Thumbs
As far as comfort goes,it's the same for all the F30's except for the Hybrid i had that was a Sportline and stands out all on it's own as the most comfortable.

Any idea what I can use to enhance the black of my seats?
I've seen several polishes, wax and conditioners.

But I am mainly interested in treating the creases and making the scratches/marks black again,

Any ideas?

DIY: Headliner replacement

So after driving around in a Victorian palace lined with drapes I decide it was time to replace my roof lining. The guys that did my steering wheel wanted R1700.00 to do it. After some research I bought 4m of dove grey roof lining and two cans of glue all for R330.00.

So here are some pics of the de-assembly and the condition of mainly the sunroof door. REMEMBER to disconnect the battery as there are airbags!!!

Started off by removing the sunvisors.

The B Pillar needs its own DIY to remove as you need to remove all the bottom panels next to the seat just the slide out the B Pillar. Will add a link at the bottom and more complete DIY step by step.

To remove the sunroof slide just open the sunroof and as its opening just pull the sunroof cover down towards you so the sunroof slides over it and the sunroof cover is closed but the sunroof itself is open.

Use a Torx Screwdriver to remove the screws and sliders on top.

Make sure when replacing the roof that these 'clips' line up with the correct sliding channel.

Notice the rooflining pulling away just above the C Pillar

The state of the sunroof cover.

So initial thoughts was that this will go quick. Just scrape the foam off.

NO NO NO. Theres a entire layer of 15 years of solid glue that needs to come off.

This took the entire day....

New material on.

The rooflining was luckily just foam that needed to be scraped off.

Not much more pics as I actually did the roof at 1:00am. So too tired to take pics but here is the finished product.

I will be getting second hand, but practically spotless A,B and C Pillars and 3rd Brake light so I did not do them now. Will update when I get them.

I think it came out okay.

Will post all the links now.

Johannesburg - A speed freak caught cruising at more than 200km/h in Benoni on Sunday told officers he was in a rush because his passenger had places to be.

This was the excuse of just one of nine people caught in an hour-and-a-half traffic enforcement blitz in Ekurhuleni on Sunday.

Between 6.30am and 8am, the nine drivers were caught breaking the 120km/h speed limit on the two-lane N12 freeway underneath the R51 bridge near Daveyton, travelling towards Benoni.

Metro police spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said eight of the cars were clocked at speeds from 161km/h to 184km/h.

One man in a VW Polo GTI was caught going at a “breakneck speed” of 202km/h. (lol, breaking the Polo GTI speed-record)

Kgasago said: “His friend was in the car. The driver said he was rushing to drop him off somewhere.”

The 33-year-old man did not say where his friend’s important meeting was, said Kgasago.

The drivers were all clocked by a camera, then stopped by another team of officers waiting further up the road, which meant no police chase was required.

“All nine drivers were charged at Benoni police station with reckless and negligent driving.”

Kgasago said they were released on bail of between R500 and R1 000 and would appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

Meanwhile, Johannesburg metro police spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the JMPD was giving a stern warning to pedestrians who walked on Johannesburg freeways.

“So far, 30 male pedestrians have been fined R200 each for walking on the M1 freeway, because it is a transgression and also dangerous,” he said.

Minnaar said officers had noticed an increase in the number of people walking to work on the M1 between Crown Mines and the Booysens off-ramp.

He said commuters must take appropriate transport to their destinations.

“In the past year, dozens of people have died on Gauteng’s highways. On the freeway, it is even more dangerous.”

EFF's letter to Sir Branson

This may not be my opinion but it is meant to generate your opinion:

The Mail & Guardian published a letter from Andile Mngxitama of the EFF, that criticised Richard Branson. It was entitled 'You’re Buying Stolen Land, Mr Branson' and you should read that article for context.
Richard Branson's 'response' has being doing the internet rounds though it's unlikely penned by him because i cannot find the source. However, even if it's a hoax, it's absolutely hilarious and clever... and totally upstages Andile whose radicalism shouldn't make anyone forget that he's a smart guy too.

You are going to enjoy this:

Dear Honorable (Commissar) Andile Mngxitama
Thank you for your letter warning me about expropriation without compensation of my Mont Rochelle Hotel and Mountain Vineyards owned by Virgin Limited Edition (VLI) in Franschoek. That is if the EFF come to power.

I do want to firstly assure you that we are used to expropriation without compensation. It is commonplace in the hotel business and I can’t tell you how many sheets and towels and pictures cutlery and plants go missing from our establishments.

One hotel owner lost a whole chandelier when a guest dismantled and smuggled it out in his brief case; in batches. Our only crime-free establishment is on my island Nakar, where the guests probably think they might be searched on departure.

May I also hasten to add that we do not own that surreally beautiful forty hectares of land in Franschoek. At least not in the same way that we own the business, cars, equipment, vines and buildings. But I give you my word that all these movables are ours and will be disposed of before the expropriation date, using explosives if needs be.

As for the very precious and beautiful land, the Registrar of Deeds, a state employee, has acknowledged our ownership by signing the title deed and survey diagram. This ‘piece of paper’ as you call it, is vital. We cannot have people trespassing on our property, or sending their cows into the vineyards. So we paid for its exclusive use. The tacit agreement is the state will prevent others from using it and our taxes pay for this protection.

I might add that when the colonial forces subugated your ancestors I believe there was much debate in Whitehall about introducing land titles into the former Homelands. Suffice to say that if they had done so then, as the Fingoes requested in 1835, people would not now still be fleeing from land held in communal ownership and arbitrary rule by chieftans.

In testament to this we can only guess how thoroughly rotten things are out there, sans titles, when people freely choose to move to the dangerous and degrading rusty corrugated suburbs around the towns and cities. There they have to buy food and are humiliated by depending on state grants which would not feed an alsation. “Oh to be a slave,” they must be thinking, contrary to your suggestion.

However untitled land was what the Cape settlers had to cope with in the 1820s. So Governor Craddock, acting on Queen Victoria’s behalf, marked out private farms and plots and issued title deeds. In those days colonialists were granted perpetual quitrent tenures which Queen Victoria was bound to honour, for ever, provided the owners paid the rent.
To describe this as stealing from the Khoi and the San is about as ridiculous as Queen Elizabeth 11 accusing Azanians for pinching the English language, taking on Westminster’s democratic norms, and and playing cricket, football and rugby. The point is that the land is still there. So how can it have been stolen.

Yes, VLE has a title deed, and yes settlers took possession by force just as the Normans took England in 1066, and the Zulus took parts of the Transkei and like property has been engrossed everywhere since BC. But in my book we do not own the Franschoek land but merely have a right to its use. A usufruct as Baroness Thatcher called it. That might be because my God, as you call Him, made this beautiful land but His name does not appear on the title deed.

And land is priceless; for in this unfathomable universe all the money in the world cannot add an inch or an ounce to our earth. And, I blush, VLE paid just fifteen years of rent for the farm (the going multiple), when it will last till the end of time, probably a billion years.

That is a bargain in any language. You call it theft, but we have not deprived anyone else. Frost and Sullivan estimates there are 27 million hectares of unused arable land in South Africa and countless millions of urban plots which could be subdivided, so there is enough to go around.
But income taxes and vat are proper, armed robbery. And when the EFF comes to power you will be fleecing everyone for working, innovating, saving, investing and spending in South Africa. Just like the ANC today.

So let us do a deal and get all this land access and theft business out of the way in the event that you win the next election:

1. Without admitting any guilt I am willing to recommend to my board that VLI pay back the current value of our land to the National Treasury over a fifteen year period with an option to continue paying for its use thereafter.
2. The conditions precedent are that all other landowners, whether black or white, are put to the same terms. Secondly National Treasury waives all income taxes and vat, starting from the February following the date that EFF comes to power.

You will find the land payments will likely exceed the present taxes because unused land, pays next to nothing now. This will mean that the price of unused land will drop sharply and will therefore cost next to nothing to expropriate. Or it will have to be put to use quickly to make the payments.

Kindly reply within the month because we have started renovations to the hotel. That may have to be stopped if your threat is not withdrawn.
Yours Sincerely
Sir Richard Branson

PS: Be much appreciated if anyone can supply me the source of this letter.

Update: Sophie Lilley, the PR Manager for Virgin Limited Edition (London) contacted me with this letter from Jon Brown, her Managing Director:
"I write in response to your recent article dated 25th June 2014 ‘Is Richard Branson Totally One-Upping the EFF?’ Please be aware that Virgin Limited Edition are the owners of Mont Rochelle Hotel & Vineyard and we feel it is necessary to respond to your article in order to remove any reference that suggests Sir Richard Branson has responded directly to claims from Andile Mngxitama of the EFF.

As you are aware, The Mail & Guardian published a letter from Andile Mngxitama of the EFF, which was entitled ‘You’re Buying Stolen Land, Mr Branson’. Virgin Limited Edition is unaware of any legitimate land claim regarding Mont Rochelle Hotel & Mountain Vineyard however we would be prepared to fully co-operate with the Land Claims Commission within the legal framework which exists in South Africa.

The response you have featured in your article was not written by Sir Richard Branson nor can it be attributed to Virgin Limited Edition."
[wow, how quick was Virgin - i have to give them a bow - thanks Sophie]

Hey there guys,
I managed to get my hands a 5 panels (Helicoil) and would like to know if there is anyone here that can help fit them on, or I will to pay for their services.
I was thinking of the option if just using the submersible pump to work for the full duration that the son is out, instead of running the pump for that long, way too expensive running the pool pump for that long.

I have the solar blanket as well so will trap the heat inside

PS.
I am in Randparkridge

Searched but couldn't find any useful information.
Due to driving with a flat tyre I have to replace two tyres on an E36 316i. Still have two good condition Michelin Energy Savers with lots of tread left. Now I have 2 options:
1. Michelin Energy XM2 @ R1190 each
2. Velocity @ R795 each

Ideally I would want the same or similar tyres on all four wheels. I've read mixed reviews of the XM2 and can't find decent reviews of the Velocity. Any suggestions?

Z4M with Asthma!!

Guys,

I have had an issue with my Z4M since the day I got her at the beginning of the year. She has asthma Bluebiggrin Sad

Basically at low revs in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear if you accelerate she stutters a bit and then pulls like she should.

I cant tell you how many times I have stalled her. To counteract this I basically rev her to about 4k and drop the clutch, which in itself is fun, but maybe not when Granny is in the car with me.

It makes driving in traffic a nightmare.

Auto Atlantic (who I am very soon going to stop using, and throw in the same shit BIN as SMG) have told me they cant find an issue and that its normal. I didnt have time to fight as I had a meeting to go to, I drive her so infrequently that I have kind of left the issue.

But now its time to sort.

Any suggestions, my brain suggest Vanos or Vanos seals (not that BMW replace these)

Any help appreciated as per usual!!

FYI she is on M/Plan!

Wanted: Performance Edition Parts

Hi and apologies if this question was asked / answered already. (I did use the Search and couldn't find anything similar).

Are you able to source the parts which constitute the 'Performance Edition' (aero kit only) for both the 2 Series as well as the 3 Series (F30)? (Front spoiler + lip, side skirts, mirror covers, read diffuser, bootlid spoiler and lastly the side crease strip sticker).

Anyone reading this post as far as this line - any advice on where to obtain if this supplier cannot source?

BM themselves have quoted R65k excl. fitment, which I consider BS.

Thanks folks.

Hi Fanatics

I was browsing through Autotrader and came across a 2001 540i with153k on the clock. Besides things to look out for as listed on the registry are there any major issues with these cars? Any comments will be highly appreciated. I really like the shape of these cars and would like some more insight before taking on what could be more than I can handle. Thanks
