Mercedes-Benz South Africa has confirmed that the S 63 AMG Coupe will be launched locally in November 2014.
The two-door model employs an AMG 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine boasting 430kW and 900Nm. It races from zero to 100km/h in 4.3 seconds, on to an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. Its claimed combined fuel economy figure? Some 10.1 litres per 100km.
Of course, it also features the Magic Body Control suspension system first revealed on the four-door S-Class models.
"The new S 63 AMG Coupe is another exciting AMG dream car in our luxury segment. With the S-Class Coupe, Mercedes-AMG's model initiative is set to continue at a fast pace in 2014," said Florian Seidler, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars South Africa.
Mercedes says that the S 63 AMG Coupe has lost 65kg. even though the car has a higher output and "more extensive standard equipment" than its predecessor. This weight saving was achieved largely thanks to the use of a lightweight lithium-ion battery, AMG forged light-alloy wheels and a weight-optimised AMG high-performance composite braking system. Also, the outer skin and front end of the body are made of aluminium.
The C 63 AMG Coupe uses a seven-speed sports transmission featuring three modes: "C" (Controlled Efficiency), "S" (Sport) and "M" (Manual).
The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG Coupe will come standard with a six-year or 100 000km maintenance plan. Pricing details will be released closer to the November launch date.
