Question for the tyre boffins

$

My GF recently bought a 2005 Picanto and it is time to change the tyres. The original tyre size on the car is 165/60/14 which is an odd size, and therefore quite pricey.
I was looking at changing the tyre size to something more common that would still work and be cheaper. The best option seems to be a 185/60/14 tyre, much cheaper and all the tyre calculators tell me it will work.

The only issue is with rolling diameter, which is 4.1% higher. How much of an issue will this be? I know about the speedo and acceleration issues, the concern is with other systems like ABS for example.

All the web sites I have visited talk about the difference in rolling diameter between front and back, but what if you change all four tyres? Is 4% too much?

In keeping with our commitment to the SA detailing community of researching and sourcing the very latest and greatest detailing trends, I would like to introduce a new line-up to Crazydetailer – Soft99. Your first reaction might be who the, or what the heck is Soft99! Soft99 until just recently was not a very well known or popular brand. While they originate and are “Big in Japan”, not many people even knew they existed though they have been around since the 60’s. A respected detailer from DetailingWorld UK tried out one of their products and was completely blown away, so much so he decided to do a detailed thread about Fusso (the wax he purchased at the time). From there on people tried the waxes and are still being blown away.

Nobody has seen this sort of technology being put into a wax. We have all used waxes, some of us have spent thousands of Rands on different waxes and sealants, but I can assure you, these products are unlike anything else you have seen before. Personally I have used allot of waxes and sealants, but doing just a fender of my car with the Fusso wax was a jaw dropping moment, even for me.

The products are based on their nano glass coating technology, and as most will agree the Japanese are masters of the glass coatings. Using similar technology, they have fused Hi-Tech resins with PTFE polymers to leave paintwork super smooth with a deep shine. Their formulas are based on specific colours to ensure the wax that you use, on a dark or light coloured vehicle is optimised for shine.
These formulations are also built to last, with Fusso claiming up to 12 months, and the other waxes around 3 months endurance. The real party trick however is the way the coating repels water. I’ve never seen a wax repel water like this. Super Hydrophobic is a term I would use. Take a look at the videos we’ve uploaded to our website.

The packaging of the waxes is loud, very different to the usual line up that we have in our store. They are different and demand attention. Might not be everyone's cup of tea I admit, but use the products and you will realise these products have been engineered to stand out from the crowd; these are not your generic off the shelf products.

First up Fusso!

This is the wax has shocked the international detailing community.

The initial testing by respected detailers proved that Fusso punches way above its weight. Formulated using the latest Fluorine polymer technology, combined with PTFE and acrylic resins, you are guaranteed to get the best possible shine that will outlast anything else on the market. Fusso bonds to the paint leaving a super slick, thick coating that is hyper hydrophobic and repels water like nothing we have seen. This keeps the surface looking better for longer as dirt and contaminates do not bond as easily. Added to that, washing becomes even easier.

While you may have used decent sealants before, fusso has another ace up its sleeve. The hi-tech resin formula also fills minor surface imperfection like no other wax can. If you suffer from paint marring due to extremely soft paint, or if you can not afford to keep polishing your paintwork due to minor swirls from weekly washing, Fusso is the answer. This filling ability together with the extremely high gloss super coating created, leaves your paintwork in showroom condition with minimal effort.

Video Footage Of The Lamborghini Gallardo Valet Crash Has Landed
When a valet parking attendant in New Delhi left this Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder with a ruined front-end, we were left with picture evidence only. Until now!

Remember when that valet parker managed to crash a Lamborghini Aventador? Well now a valet attendant in New Delhi, India, has done a similarly sacriligeous thing by crashing a Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder. Details surrounding the accident are scarce, but it’s pretty obvious that the attendant - for whatever reason - buried their foot on the accelerator, ploughing the car into a concrete wall. Judging by the dislodged wing mirror and the mark down the side of the car, it looks as though the Lambo scraped something before hitting the wall.

We’re guessing the attendant either mistook the accelerator for the brake, or was attempting some car park heroics with the V10-powered supercar.

The Fast & Furious 7 Crew Released This Emotional Message To Fans After Filming Their Last Scene
After being delayed by the tragic death of star Paul Walker, Fast and Furious 7 filming has now been wrapped up ahead of the movie's April 2015 release
By Matt Robinson, 11 July 2014

After the tragic death of Paul Walker last year, the latest instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise in which he starred was hit by delays while the production crew decided how best to accommodate the actor’s absence. The script was rewritten and many scenes reshot. It’s been estimated that the budget was inflated by another $50 million (£30m) due the delays, but at last, filming has now been completed.

To announce the news, the Fast & Furious Facebook page posted the image above, along with the emotional open letter (below) to fans. The post has since clocked over 53,000 likes.

***

We made it.

Today we completed the last shot in the production of FAST & FURIOUS 7.

We wanted to take this moment to express how thankful we are for your support. We felt the love and strength from our fans throughout this journey, and it’s because of you that we got here.

There was a time when we didn’t know how we could go on, or even if we should. But we listened to you, and you inspired us not only to keep going but to try and make the best FAST & FURIOUS movie yet.

Our FAST family has been together for almost fifteen years now and has grown a lot in that time. From the start, Vin has been our leader who feels what’s right for FAST in his gut and in his heart. When we had to stop production last year, Vin gathered us back together and moved us forward when we needed it most. He led us to this day.

Some of us have been here from the very beginning. Vin, Michelle, Jordana and our producer Neal all go back to that first little movie we shot on the streets of LA. We came back to LA in FAST 7, and it was an especially emotional homecoming for those who’ve grown up with each other since that first shoot.

There are those we count as brothers who we gathered along the way and are with us again: Dwayne, Tyrese, Luda, Lucas and our writer, Chris. We’ve got some new additions this time in Jason, Kurt, Djimon, Nathalie and our director, James. Caleb and Cody joined us to honor their brother and help complete his work.

Our family is big and strong but it won’t ever quite be whole again without Paul.

All of us — those who’ve been here from the start and those whose first FAST film is 7 — wanted to create a special film for him and for you. We believe we have.

Thank you for being there for us. You are the biggest part of our family, and we couldn’t have gotten here without you.

The countdown to April 3 begins.

With love,

Your FAST & FURIOUS Family

The film will be released on 7th April 2015. A new poster has also been released, which can be seen below.

F30 BMW Rubber Mats (My Review)

Hi Everyone,

This is what my carpets looks like in winter. Damn annoying Yuck

Those Midas or Buider's mats wasn't working for me. It kept sliding around (under the pedal as well), and the dirt still ends up on the carpet.

I recently bought the "Original BMW Floor Mats". These mats are great.
- made from a high quality rubber. They're hard and durable
- does not slide, so you can floor that accelerator pedal with confidence. It "sticks" to the carpet in the same way that the original mat does. (all the clips are included which you don't need, if you use the one's from your original mat)
- it provides a very tight fit, not allowing any dirt to settle underneath it

The driver and passenger mat comes in a set, and the two rears in another set. I only needed the front set.

Anyone know of an N54 being stripped so I can get a cost effective options instead of getting from the stealers.

This Guy Is Crazy Enough To Stick His Hand In Liquid Nitrogen

Nitrogen can exist in a liquid state between -210oC and -195.8oC (-346oF to -320.44oF) under normal atmospheric pressure. That’s pretty damn cold. Back in school you may have had demonstrations where teachers put various objects into it and then shattered them. So shoving your hand in a bucket of the stuff sounds like a BAD idea… Right?

Well, thanks to the Leidenfrost effect, your hand doesn’t actually get seriously messed up (but don’t try it, anyway). You may have noticed the Leidenfrost effect whilst cooking with a really hot pan. If the surface is hot enough (much hotter than the liquid’s boiling point), water droplets ball up into little dancing beads instead of instantly evaporating. This is because an insulating vapor layer forms between the liquid and the hot surface, preventing the rest of the water from touching the hot surface. This slows the heat transfer between the two and thus prevents the liquid from further evaporation.

This also happens when liquid nitrogen comes into contact with a room temperature object, such as your hand. Check out this video for a demonstration:

Hey There,

I am specificaly joining to look for & share ideas about kitting out a black 2003 745i that I bought as a weekend car. This car has very low mileage and I would like to kit it out with massive sound, exhaust mods, large rims, dark windows, dark lenses, aftermarket badge detail etc....and anything else to set it apart from the rest.

Any ideas, suggestions and support will be much appreciated.

F30 ventilation issue.

Hi guys

I have a 2014 330d F30 with 1200km on.

My issue is as follows: When I start the car the ventilation always revert to feeding air towards the feet/face of the passenger. It didn't always do this.

I then set it to vent the face area only. When I have locked the car and start it again. It's AGAIN venting the passenger's feet and face.
Why does it not remember the setting I set it on and left it on??

Anyone have a clue what's going on?

Absolute Drift Is The Unsophisticated New Game You'll Get Addicted To Instantly
Don’t let your boss find out, because this perfectly simple computer game is going to put an end to your productive day at work.

Absolute Drift is the most incredible, simple and addictive game that even non gamers can play. No need for a fancy simulator or even a wheel. This game is best enjoyed using a good old fashioned keyboard, especially when you’ve got something else you should be doing. Indie game developer Funselektor brings us a physics-based casual game for both PC and Mac where the key to earning points is simple: drift and keep drifting as long as possible.

The game walks you through the controls by dropping your car in the Play Zone where you are greeted with an aerial view of the entry and basic controls spelled out on the ground. There is a tutorial level as well for perfecting your steering, a skill needed to earn points. Then, it’s off to one of the several levels or mini games within the game. Race on the tracks or collect points in timed levels. There are so many obstacles to explore, and each will earn you extra points: catch some air, drift beneath a structure, and destroy the red blocks.

The full version of the game will officially be released at the end of 2014 and will include a Gymkhana mode. Funselektor tells CT that this new mode will let players choose their own route through the course to score points while drifting around obstacles, a little like the Gymkhana mode in Dirt 3. New levels will be unlocked by completing skill tests, and high scores will be shared via online leaderboards. Research is now underway for making a local multi-player mode.

So, what to do in the meantime? There are demo versions of the game available for download to Mac or PC to keep you hooked for a little while. Don’t worry, it seems things are moving fast for this game. This week, Absolute Drift went on Steam Greenlight where Steam account holders will rate it until it gets enough support to be available on the network. The developer will also launch a website soon to keep everyone informed of the latest features and give a release timeline. We can only imagine great things will come after seeing what the demo can do.

BMW 320i E46 2005 fuel-pump error

$

Hi folks,

I could use your help diagnosing this persistent issue I'm having with my baby:

On cold starts, the fuel pump will not boot up...the car cranks fine, but won't actually fire up. Currently, the only way to get the car to start is to switch the ignition from "Power" to "On" until I hear the Fuel Pump actually start up, although this morning, even after hearing it, shortly after starting, she would die (it took me 4 tries and a heavy foot to finally get her to "stay" on). I had my fuel pump replaced less than a year ago, and a full service done less than 2 months ago...shortly after, I unfortunately grinded to a stop atop the BRT bus lane's yellow-brick-wall thanks to some thick fog and an escaping criminal, but after getting it checked out, only the smash guard took a bit of a hit...
In the meantime, I had my fault-codes checked, which comes back all-clear, I had my fuel-relay replaced, and otherwise, had my car checked all of 6 times at Mech1 for the same issue, to no avail...needless to say, I'm pretty desperate...! Biggest problem is, she starts fine when warm, and Mech1 cannot replicate the issue because by then, it's warm outside...
I noticed posts here describe similar problems, but always detail something that isn't the case with mine...

Thanks to all!
