Possible new forum rule???

Hi Guys

Not sure if this has been discussed, however I have noticed a lot of new members joining the forum with their very first post being the sale of BMW cars, parts, accessories, etc

To avoid the site becoming the next OLX or Gumtree site. Do you think the Mods should consider a rule that you need to have met a certain amount of posts before you can post a for sale thread.

Just a thought =)

found this cool diy on an internatiol forum and thought i would share for other to use, full credit goes to the writer and e90post for hosting the DIY Thumbs

DIY Trunk mounted grocery bag holder

Quote:One thing the 335 doesnt have that my previous car (2006 Audi A4) did was a place to hang your grocery bags. What's worse than having all your shopping slide around in the trunk as you exit your local supermarket in a high G turn

So... courtesy of Audi...(dont flame me yet... they charged me over 500 dollars in bogus fees for a car that was in mint condition upon lease return) I removed the grocery bags from the A4 before I returned it.

Here is the DIY

DISCLAIMER:
1) Although the area you'll be drilling has no vital components nor did I see any wires, this DIY is done AT YOUR OWN RISK.

2) Do not even attempt this if you have back problems. This DIY requires you to be twisted in all the anatomically challenging positions. I'm in good shape and was sore after 15 minutes of being twisted around.

What you need:
- Walk into any Audi dealership (under-cover of course) and order the shopping bag hooks for the 2006 Audi A4. The hooks should come with the appropriate 4 screws.
- A drill with appropriate drill bit (about 1mm narrower than the screws)
- A Phillips head screwdriver
- A magic marker for marking drilling spots a sharpie works well.

The setup

Marking the drilling spots
- Test fit the hooks in the folded (horizontally) position. I wanted to be able to see them stick out a bit so that I didnt have to look under the trunk lid to find them (which is what I had to do in the Audi)
-Then mark the drilling spots with the market as you lay the hooks over your
desired spot.
(Pictured below is where I marked the two dots (two right-most dots)

Mount the hooks with two screws when done.

I thought it a bit slowish (only slightly better that my 125i).

That was until I pressed the M button.

M for Madhir
M for Mental

Anyhow - anyone know where I can find what M Dynamique is about, website that explains the Power button, how the EDC works etc?

Or you can just go ahead and explain.
I'm a bit scared of fecking up the car if I do things wrongly.

The Honda NSX Prototype Has Gone Up In Flames At The Nurburgring
The same NSX prototype which was spotted testing at the 'Ring this week is now little more than a charred, blackened shell after a catastrophic fire.
By Matt Robinson, 24 July 2014

http://www.carthrottle.com/the-honda-nsx...rburgring/

Honda’s testing of the new NSX at the Nurburgring has ended in disaster, with a catastrophic fire consuming much of the car. Motor-Talk reports that two test drivers were forced to park up and flee the car after a fire broke out in the engine bay. Both occupants are thought to be OK.

The new NSX features a petrol V6 and electric motor powering the rear axle, with another two motors powering each of the front wheels. Ted Klaus, development chief for the project, has been quoted as saying that the team behind the car is “looking for the excitement of the [Ferrari] 458 at the price of the 911.” Given that both early 458s and 991 911 GT3s had a tendency to catch fire, this statement feels a little awkward in retrospect.

Some upgrades for my R56 Cooper S

Hi guys,

My mini recently came out of motor plan, and I have been toying around with the idea of some kind of performance upgrades. Specifically something to help the engine breathe easier.

What exhaust mods have you guys carried out, and what you would you recommend I look in to.

Hey guys

I'd like to hear your opinions on this one. (Might be a long post again):

I have been having a error code problem (0120 - pedal position potentiometer) for a while now. Thought I had gotten to the bottom of it a few times, but it seems to re-appear everytime with the same symptoms a few days later.. Here is the link to the post about this for details: https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=58270

Continuing from the end of that post, the problem returned a day later. At this point I had also installed my new Racechip Pro 2 (which is flippin awesome btw, but I'll get round to a review on that at a later stage).
I went over to netercol to run diagnostics, at his gracious invitation. He was happy with all my pressure readings, but the pedal reading did indeed deviate between the actual position (driver's wish) and where the Ecu thinks it is. The low pressure fuel pump was on 4.1 bar if I remember correctly, which seemed a little low, but not enough to be overly concerned about. Quite relieved, I proceeded to replace the pedal the next day with one that I got from Bemow Spares.

This immediately solved all issues. Car was running exceptionally well.

Not even two days later the symptoms were back though. Argh The car had noticeable hesitation, this happened intermittently in multiple driving situations and at random rpm's. The only consistently strong (push-you-back-in-the-seat) pull has been when accelerating past 120km/h in 4th and 5th. I have left the racechip in, as I tested it by removing it and determined it had no the no effect on the symptoms. It simply made the car a lot more driveable.

The engine cut out/brick wall problem still happened at full throttle as well. I have now noticed that the car gets to full throttle (with kickdown switch depressed) without issues, but if any incremental amount of weight gets added onto the pedal when already fully depressed, the fuel supply gets cut off and the rpm's drop to idle speed. Lifting off the throttle a tiny bit then brings the fuel supply (and consequently the engine) back to life, but with a vengeance.

Then yesterday I was pulling away at a robot and the car went into limp mode. I had a mini freak out for a few moments because the last time this happened my gearbox had fused a few gears onto each other. When I calmed down I returned to intense research regarding all (or any) of my symptoms associated with limp mode. At this point I had driven home (about 1.5km) in limp mode and left the car in my garage as I had to get back to work.

I have since then started to genuinely appreciate the immense effort that went into building this engine and how complex it truly is. There are a variety of things that have all been documented on the interwebs that relate to these symptoms in some way or another. I have found these symptoms in posts from the petrol guys who have similar pedal resonse problems with the 528, as well as 330 problems with crankshaft sensors, wheel speed sensors, bad wiring harnesses, minute vacuum pipe splits, lift off pumps and pressure regulators, among others. I started to get that sinking feeling that I will never escape from this pit. (Keep in mind, it did occur to me that the secondhand pedal might also have gone bad, but this seemed highly unlikely, as the chances of one failing are very small. So both failing seemed a bit of a stretch.)

I then decided to clean the MAF again, as its involvement in limp mode seems popular. No signs of dirt/filth were apparent when I had a proper look at the sensor itself, but sprayed it down with MAF cleaner anyway. I also cleaned the plug connectors of the pressure regulator sensor, cam sensor, and the one on the MAF itself. Put everything back and started her up. Limp mode was now gone. I didn't put too much stock in this, as the battery had been disconnected as well, which could simply have reset the ecu out of limp mode.

On my hunch about the low pressure pump being a bit too low, I got a new one and installed it. I did this a few months back for the first time, but I got a proper one this time, as previous one was the cheaper version of the two. New one runs much quieter than the cheapy, and the car did drive and idle a bit better. (The overall driving experience at this stage was not at all terrible, most people I know would have been happy - I was not.) All the symptoms were still present. The hesitation seemed to be less obvious when driving in Sport mode and especially if I reset the pedal adaptation before driving off. To feel an improvement, I had to do the reset every second or third time I started the car though. (Procedure: key on pos. 2, engine off -> kickdown switch depressed for 10sec -> foot off pedal -> key back to pos. 0 -> start engine)

I went for a drive earlier tonight to open her up a bit, and once again i chose a stupid time off day for this. Traffic on the R28. In the opposite direction the highway was much clearer, so I turned back. As I was nailing it a bit on the on-ramp onto the highway, the car shifted very hard from 3rd to 4th - almost felt like I had hit something. I massive cloud of black smoke shot out of the exhaust at the same moment as the hard shift. Immediately thereafter: THE CAR WAS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT???

The pedal was softer and immensely more responsive, the gearshifts were completely smooth, and the power was REDONCOULOUS. I had to stop myself from driving 180km/h every few seconds - it seems I have gotten used to much more depressed pedal at highway speeds than is normal.

I proceeded to test the engine cut off problem. Instead of cutting off, the engine just did a little shudder and promptly went on with it's business. Tried this a few times, but only got the shudder.

Another thing that has never happened before while driving in sport: If I lifted my foot from the pedal to decelerate without braking, the car shifted down from 5th to 4th if the rpm's got a bit low. I assume this is the way it is supposed to be, but usually the car stayed in 5th if I did this.

Basically the car was an absolute pleasure to drive, and a monster when applying foot.

I do not know what to make of this, maybe a carbon deposit stuck somewhere important that burned off? I thought you chaps might have something to say, or at the very least find it interesting reading.

I am very happy right now, but past behavior indicates that it wont last. Should I just leave everything alone for the moment and see what happens?

Thank you for your time, as always comments are welcomed and advice is appreciated.

Cheers

Hi All!

I have a problem with my 2003 BMW 320i E46. It started leaking a clear almost odderless oil of some sort. The leak seams to come from just where the engine meets the gearbox I presume. I suspected it could be the transmission oil but I'm not a 100% sure. The car shifts fine and the clutch doesn't seem to be slipping. Can anyone give me an idea of what this maybe or if you have experienced a similar thing?

Telkom CEO in car licence cloning scandal

$

Quote:The Star has reported that Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko is at the centre of a City of Johannesburg metro police (JMPD) investigation into a car licence cloning scandal.

The newspaper reported that Maseko “stands accused of running up about R30 000 in traffic fines – to be paid by another driver”.

Businessman Mabena Motshoane spotted his cloned number plates on a black Range Rover while driving on the highway.

He gave chase and stopped the driver in the black Range Rover, and found out that it was Telkom CEO Maseko.

“I asked him why he was driving around with my number plates, and he gave me a vague answer that his old black Range Rover had that number plate and he had personalised it to his own name,” The Star quoted Motshoane as saying.

According to the report, Motshoane “later discovered his car had previously been owned by Maseko”.

The JMPD sent officers to Maseko’s Houghton home to inspect the vehicle, but the newspaper reported that they were refused entry.

“Maseko agreed to take the car to Martindale, the JMPD headquarters, a few days later,” the newspaper said. When he did, the vehicle now had the plates 414 TVL GP – the same numbers and letters as Motshoane’s plate, but in the reverse order.

According to Motshoane: “People in high places have been calling me and asking me to drop this, but I can’t”.

MyBroadband contacted Telkom for feedback regarding the issue, but the company did not respond by the time of publication.

The full The Star report is available here

Further reporting by SAPA

Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko is under investigation after being implicated in an alleged car licence cloning case, the City of Johannesburg said on Friday, 25 July 2014.

“Whatever is happening in terms of allegations about him [Maseko] being on the wrong side of the law is being investigated by the Johannesburg metro police department (JMPD),” said city spokesman Nthatisi Modingoane.

He could not say what sort of case was being investigated by the metro police.

“Everything [all questions] that has to do with the case should go to JMPD because the city is not an investigating agent,” he said.

Metro police spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the case was not public information.

“Any traffic offence or criminal charge against individuals is a matter between that individual and the State. Until such time that the case enters court, then it becomes public information.”

The Star reported on Friday that Maseko was driving around using his previous vehicle’s number plates, which were legally being used by businessman Mabena Motshoane, who had purchased Maseko’s old Range Rover.

It reported that Maseko incurred traffic fines totalling R30,000, but that these were sent to Motshoane to pay.

Motshoane came across Maseko’s vehicle using his number plates on a Pretoria freeway by chance.

He opened a case with the metro police, and a case of fraud with the Booysens police station, according to the newspaper.

Metro police officers went to Maseko’s home, but were reportedly denied permission to inspect his vehicle.

According to the newspaper, the officers were later instructed to leave Maseko’s Houghton home after allegedly being told that city manager Trevor Fowler had intervened in the matter. Modigoane denied that Fowler was involved.

A few days later, metro police were allowed to inspect the vehicle, but by then Maseko’s number plates had allegedly been changed.

The Star said it had seen the fines, and photographs and video footage of Maseko driving the car with Motshoane’s number plates.

Maseko told the newspaper he had contacted Fowler.

“… I was scared and nervous and the only person I could think of was Trevor Fowler. All Mr Fowler did was refer me to someone in the JMPD who could assist me,” he was quoted as saying.

Telkom spokesman Pynee Chetty declined to comment on Friday.

The new Bugatti is coming in 2016
25 July, 2014 | by Vijay Pattni

http://www.topgear.co.za/news/head-of-vw...n-its-way/

Get ready. The head of Volkswagen Group design has confirmed to us that work on the next Bugatti model is well underway, with an expected launch in early 2016.

Walter de Silva, who has headed up VW Group’s design since 2007, said “we’re working hard at Bugatti, but don’t worry, it’s coming. I cannot predict exactly, but at the end of 2015 or early 2016, we’ll see the new Bugatti.”

De Silva wouldn’t confirm exactly what form this new car would take, but did concede that it “won’t be a Veyron replacement, it’ll be more than that. We’re investigating all avenues at the moment”.

He remained confident, however, it will be something incredible. “For me, Bugatti is not a car,” de Silva said, “it is a piece of art. You have to understand this. You are in another range when you talk about Bugatti. No, forget that, you play in another league with Bugatti. When you buy a Bugatti, you buy a piece of art. It’s a story, and I would like to transfer the Bugatti idea in this way.”

Tech-wise, again, de Silva remained tight-lipped, but did say how the company is putting “a lot of attention in the technology for the new Bugatti. We’re developing a few different concepts at the moment, working together with the engineers and designers at the same time.

“Bugatti is something that in the end is a car, OK, but it’s a car that is a lifestyle. Bugatti is a part of your sensitivity, of your feeling,” de Silva added.

So what do we know, then? Earlier this year, Bugatti boss Dr Wolfgang Schreiber told Top Gear that the company would not build a ‘SuperVeyron’ or indeed a production version of the 2009 Galibier concept (pictured above).

“We have talked many, many times about the Galibier, but this car will not come because it would confuse our customers,” Dr Schreiber told us. “With the Veyron, we placed Bugatti on top of all super sportscar brands in the whole world. Everyone knows that Bugatti is the ultimate super sportscar.”

Whatever this new car is, it will have to ‘redefine the benchmarks’, he added. And let us not forget, those benchmarks have been set just about as high as possible… Watch this space.

First ever co.za domain names in South Africa
The co.za zone was created on 4 June 1992, and the first domain name registered may surprise you
Staff Writer July 24, 2014

http://mybroadband.co.za/news/internet/1...frica.html

On 4 June 1992 Alan Burett created the co.za zone, making it possible for people to register co.za domain names.

The first ever co.za domain name registered was maybe not what many people expected – it was bksinc.co.za, registered on 25 June 1992.

The second domain name was paradigm.co.za, registered on 13 July 1992, followed by uiscpt.co.za the next day.

Not many of the initial domain names are well known. However, there are a few early companies that were registered which people will recognise.

Mnet.co.za was registered on 30 November 1992, while argus.co.za was registered on 11 December 1992.

A full list of early co.za domain name registrations are available here.
ZA Central Registry starts to administer the co.za domain space

The ZA Central Registry, formerly known as UniForum SA, was established as a non-profit organisation in 1988 by a group of end users, developers, and vendors.

It was assigned the responsibility of administering the co.za domain name space in 1995, three years after the first co.za domain name was registered.

The World Wide Web started to take off globally, and the number of co.za domain name registrations rose rapidly.

In 1995 the co.za zone contained in the region of 400 entries. Today there are over 926,000 domains, amounting to over 95% of the total registrations in the .za top level domain.

According to the ZA Central Registry, co.za ranks as a medium to large zone and within the top 30 registries world-wide in terms of size.
