M135i tailpipe size?
Hi Guys,
Can anyone tell me how big the M135i tailpipes size is?
Trying to source bigger tailpipes and found similar looking ones at 3.5" or 89/90mm.
Worth the upgrade?

Are the E46 M3 Engines really like glass?
As the title states... is this really the case? Keen to know some info from current and ex E46 M3 owners. I am curious because it seems you can pick up really clean 05/06 models from 250k, which is extremely tempting for me right now.

IN FOR STORIES...
HI GUYS
Took my 320i e90 for oil change last week Friday.
yesterday I find something leaking from the car looks like alien blood.
Eventually I took it this morning to palm river motors we put it on the car jack only to find it has a coolant leak from under the vacuum pump from a black little cover. Now its a fight with car dealer to pay the bill they reckon they need the car back to quote and I pay the balance if I want it done else were . I hope this gadget and labour is not going to kill me
Has anyone experienced this same issue.??

Less pricey front bearing replacement
Hi Fanatics
I drive a BMW 320i e90.... Recently, it started making noise when driving and my dad told me my front right bearing is dead. I called Tune tech to ask for a quote and I was told I will have to pay 2700 for each bearing to be replaced excluding the hub, so that makes it 5400 to replace both.
Is there a cheaper place where I can go to get them replaced? I don't want to drive my car while it's in this condition. Please help. I seem to be picking up WHEEL issues lately.

i suspect there may be a vacuum leak somewhere and not the coils as i first thought....still need to run diagnostics and am awaiting my inpa reader...
this is a pic of the broken pipe. its the one on top
Apparently its a common issue and these tend to detoriate over time...especially with high mileage cars like mine

Hellcat is world's fastest four-door
By: IOL Motoring Staff
Auburn Hills, Michigan - The super-saloon world has a new king. Dodge has just unleashed its monstrous new Charger SRT Hellcat and is claiming it to be the fastest and most powerful series-production sedan in the world.
The furious four-door borrows its 6.2-litre supercharged Hemi V8 heart from the recently announced Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Hammering out 527 killerwatts and a thunderous 880Nm of twist, the Charger Hellcat is allegedly capable of reaching 328km/h.
Dodge also claims an 11-second quarter mile and while no 0-100km/h sprint time has been quoted, Dodge is promising that it'll screech from zero to 160km/h and then back to a standstill all in under 13 seconds - about the time it takes an average small hatch just reach 100. That all-important anchorage is provided by a set of 15.4-inch Brembo two-piece rotors with six-piston calipers.
The engine is mated to a heavy-duty TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic gearbox that can swop cogs in a claimed 160 milliseconds and aid acceleration with its rev-matching technology.
The Hellcat is an imposing sight, with Dodge having pimped up almost every single body panel and then plonked it onto a set of 20-inch alloys to give it some grip around corners. On that note, and besides the three-mode adaptive damping system, Dodge makes no mention of any suspension modifications. Scared yet?
Like most modern performance cars, the Charger Hellcat is willing to adapt itself to the driver's whims through a range of drive modes - five in this case - that tailor the engine management, gearbox, suspension and traction control systems.
Cabin pampering comes in the form of a Nappa leather/Alcantara suede seat trim combo and a Uconnect infotainment set-up that features a 900 watt, 18-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system. Whether you'll want to crank that up in a car with a grumbly Hemi under the hood is another question.
Yet with all that power underhood you're not going to be very comfortable handing the keys to a valet, mechanic or family member. Which is why Dodge sells this with two sets of keys - a red one that liberates full performance potential and a black one that detunes the engine with one twist of the key. The owner can also active a 'valet mode' through the car's control system.
Sadly for muscle car maniacs, this lump of beastly American metal is LHD only and therefore not making a run for our shores.

BMW Badge/Roundel Replacement
Hi Guys,
Just bought a couple of carbon fiber badges off ebay for the bonnet and for the boot. Seen quite a few instructional videos on youtube showing how the badges are meant to be removed but I'm worried I will break the two metal prongs that hold the badge in place while trying to remove it.
I've also bought a suction cup and a prying tool to try and make the job easier but I'm still a bit worried. I don't want to ruin the ones that are currently on the car incase I don't like the look of the carbon fiber.
How many of you have changed your badges on your own? How easy was it?

E90 - I kinda messed up
So it started out as a squeak on cold startup. Just thought my car didn't like winter, js like the owner
It then turned into a power steering judder + squeak on cold startup. At this point, I'm fearing the worst, power steering pump.
I then start to search for power steering flush diy on the web so I can at least do that before replacing the pump.
Then this past sunday, I moved the car and the steering wheel was worse, and now there was burnt rubber smell. Popped the hood, had a look around the belts, checked if they are loose or anything, visually inspected the vibration damper - looked solid (considering it's a pirate part).
I had a closer look at the belts and voila - cracks on power steering belt.
At this point, I'm chuffed cause I'm 99% sure I've found the root cause of all these PS issues. I order a belt from dealer - got a nice discount, and picked it up today.
When I got home, I went straight to the car, and started removing the old belt which was a challenge, so I figured I need to turn the crank with a 22" socket on a ratchet with one hand, while removing the belt with a screwdriver with the other hand.
I put the socket/ratchet in and figured I needed to have the car in neutral(Auto), so I can turn the crank by hand.
So I leave the ratchet on the crank bolt, and head into the cabin. Try and shift into neutral with the car off, nope gearbox is locked, so without thinking, i start the car so I can change into neutral, and there was a loud bang in the engine
So I switch off the car and head up front, and lo and behold - I've got a hole in my air tube. Part number 3 on below diagram - sorry didnt take a pic as I was panicking at this stage.
So what happened is when I started the engine, the ratchet spun onto the airtube and punctured a hole into it which is about 5cm long. Silly mistake that.
Anyways, I went ahead and put on the new PS belt, and my PS has never been smoother, and squeak is gone, but now i have to find an airtube.

E70 X5 gearbox oil change
I have been following the various debates about changing the oil on a high-mileage auto gearbox with some interest. My E70 X5 has now done 173000km, and the gearbox oil has never been changed due to BMW's "lifetime oil" policy during normal services.
I have driven the car since practically new, so I have a good idea of how the gear changes felt when new, compared to current mileage. I have begun to notice that the box was getting slower to engage reverse, and that the gearshift 2-3 has occasionally become jerky, especially when the gearbox is cold. When hot, it was mostly well-behaved. This situation has persisted for the last 50000km at least, without becoming worse, but I knew that something had to be done if the box had to last.
I have read that a gearbox oil change is not recommended much beyond 120000km, because new oil is supposedly bad for the box and it will fail shortly afterwards.
Well, I could not accept this kind of logic, so I recently went to visit ZF Services in Germiston for some expert advice directly from the manufacturer of this ZF 6HP26 gearbox, and with a request to replace the oil in my gearbox.
Here are some facts that I have learnt during the process:
In my case at 173000km, the oil sample was in quite good condition, and the adaptation values were still in spec, so we proceeded with changing the oil in the gearbox right there in ZF's workshop while I waited. The gearbox sump with integral filter was also changed as well as the cable connector sleeve seal, a common leak area.
Nico from ZF then proceeded to check the software status of the gearbox, reset the adaptations values, and took the car for an "adaptation drive" which involves a series of stop/start procedures, holding gears manually for some distance and shifting through the gears in a specific pattern. This is designed to get the gearbox to adapt to its new values in a very short time.
It is essential to reset the gearbox adaptations after an oil change, so unless you have this capability, it is not a DIY project. Failure to reset the adaptation values will lead to premature failure after an oil change.
After a few days, I can now report back that my car drives like new again. The gearshifts are smooth like butter, even when cold. I can mostly not even feel a gearshift, just the change in rpm and engine sound indicates that it has shifted a gear.
Some other factoids that I have picked up while chatting to Nico:
Lastly, I can really recommend ZF for their expertise and friendly service. Nico and Marius are upstanding guys who are proud of their work. I have most likely saved myself a R45k rebuild in the next year or two for a much lower service expense now.
I hope this little write-up is of value to anyone who is in two minds about servicing their auto gearboxes and who are being misled by BMW's silly "lifetime oil" policy.

Here are some facts that I have learnt during the process:
- This 6HP26 6-speed gearbox is commonly used in E90, E60, E63/64 E65, F01-series BMW's, X5/X6 models (E53 V8, E70, E71) as well as in Land Rover Discovery 3/4, Range Rover, Jaguar, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, VW/Audi and Maserati cars of the era (2001-2010)
- ZF recommends that the gearbox oil be replaced every 80000-120000 km. Why BMW does not follow this recommendation, I really don't understand.
- It the mileage is much over 120000km (as it was in my case at 173k), ZF will do a few tests to determine if an oil change can be done or not. These tests involve reading the adaptations values of gearbox (with INPA nogal), which are indicative of the wear on the clutch packs in the gearbox.
- If the adaptation values are excessive, there is a good chance that the clutch pack surfaces have glazed and will start slipping with new oil.
- ZF will also draw off a small sample of the old gearbox oil to determine if the oil has "burnt". This is another indicator of glazed clutch surfaces.
In my case at 173000km, the oil sample was in quite good condition, and the adaptation values were still in spec, so we proceeded with changing the oil in the gearbox right there in ZF's workshop while I waited. Some other factoids that I have picked up while chatting to Nico:
- It costs around R45k to rebuild this 6HP26 gearbox once it has failed. This includes the mechatronics solenoid pack at R20k which often is still in perfect condition, but ZF has to replace it in order to offer their warranty on the rebuild.
- The oil in the gearbox costs R185/liter at ZF, compared to around R500/liter at BMW. The box takes 8 liters during a normal oil change as some 2 liter remains behind in the torque convertor and the gearbox oil cooler.
- The 6HP26 box fails much more often in diesel-engined cars than petrol-engined cars, probably due to the torque characteristics of diesels. I was shown an E70 X5 3.0d with only 140000km with a failed gearbox.
- ZF Services are not allowed to advertise the fact that they service and rebuild gearboxes, as ZF has a contract with BMW SA under which BMW send all cars with auto gearbox issues to ZF for service/repair. They also service/repair steering pumps and racks.
Lastly, I can really recommend ZF for their expertise and friendly service. Nico and Marius are upstanding guys who are proud of their work. I have most likely saved myself a R45k rebuild in the next year or two for a much lower service expense now.
