E36 - External Air Temperature Sensor

$

I managed to source an OEM external air temp sensor after much searching. Also managed to find the wiring in the engine bay and connected the sensor so that the OBD display doesn't read -35 degrees anymore. However I have the sensor sitting in the engine bay and it is reading the higher temps in the engine bay instead of the correct external air temp......so now I just need to figure out exactly where the sensor is supposed to sit. Does anybody know?

E36 316i rear sagging badly

I know there was a post regarding the E36's rear that seems to sag with age, but can't seem to find it.

Did anybody ever found a solution for it?

My mom's 1999 E36 316i (290 000km) is sagging very badly, and it seems to its just getting worse. The right rear wheels is starting to sit deep under the wheel arch, and obviously the left front is sitting up in the air because of that, and the car's handling is also getting worse because of that.
Left rear is still okay.
Went to Supa Quick, they suggest rear coilsprings, bought it, had it fitted, but still exactly the same, been to 3 different mechanics regarding that, and nobody have a answer.

smoke gets in your eyes

so this morning on my way to drop off the lady at work I saw the expression first hand, when you can tell someone is pulling something through their ass.

on my way to Cape Town CBD I get to hospital bend and I notice that traffic was kind of very slow but I didn't mind because I caught site of a white ///M135i, if you on the forum, very mooi ride dude..

anyway, while going up hospital bend, I get the distinct smell of oil and I look ahead and see this cloud of blue smoke in the distance. Now, being half asleep, all these factors play around in your head and you dreaming stuff up..
  • dude, dont forget to call mr x
  • yoooor, i cant believe its monday
  • hey, whats that smell.. i hope its not my car
  • hey look there's smoke
  • why is there a train on the n2
  • oh snap, i shouldnt party this hard over a weekend
  • im hungry

so you guys get my drift. Low and behold as I come close its a caravelle pumping out large amounts of smoke out of the exhaust. the rings are so badly shot to shit that even when we went down hill the car was pumping out smoke.

now you ask yourself, I understand that you may not have the money to fix it, I understand that you may have run into some difficulty but why cause more damage to the car or even put yourself in a position where you end up spending more money trying to fix the additional problems caused. and not to mention buggering up the ozone layer even further.

I just saying this cause it was sad to see someone putting some serious damage to an already not so healthy car..

Morning Fanatics!

I notice you guys don't have a Rave/Rant section so I hope this is in the right place.

I just wanted to give you huge RAVE to UpNcOming! for helping me out this weekend. The guy didn't even know me but he came out all the way to my place to help me with something. I really appreciate you taking the time bud!

Hi, I'm Johan.

I own a 1979 (LHD) 635CSi which I inherited from my father in 2007.
It's Cream/beige in colour with Dark blue leather interior. Unfortunately it doesn't have the orignal 3.5 engine in anymore. Not sure what the exact engine size is - Can only see 3.0/3.3 on the block.
I don't have any pics of it at the moment.
Stripped the head off the engine this weekend as it's got a blown headgasket. As soon as I'm done and its running again, I'll clean it up and send some fresh pics.

So I have finally made the decision to strip my 325i and will be enterining the BMW Car Club Race Series
Just some details on the car
1993 325i Man with 188000kms. I have owned this car for 11 years now. Bought it with 90000kms on the clock
Brilliant Red with Black Leather
Sunroof
Mods on the car include;
3 litre stroker motor with M3 branches and TNT exhaust system
M3 LS Diff
M3 Calipers with EBC Discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads in front
BC Coilover suspension
Strut Brace
We started stripping the interior on Saturday afternoon
There's still plenty to do including sending the car to have the rollcage fitted and to have the bucket seats installed

Hi Friends

I am new to group, so this be my introduction: MY08 135i
Bought about a month ago. Car came with DP, so i fitted complete zorst. Decided to do a dyno, and figures shows 229KW/508 Torque. I am guessing there is some map loaded on this car.
Problem is that before doing zorst, I get a lot of fuel smell in the car, could this be related to car needing to be retuned or could it be a filter?

Western Digital’s helium-filled 10TB HD and ‘Cold Storage’ drive sneak into view
Andy Walker By Andy Walker

There’s a new technology war brewing, but it’s not on the console or mobile phone front. Hilariously, just two weeks after Seagate announced its “world first” 8TB HDD and made such a massive fuss about it, Western Digital has announced a hermetically-sealed, helium-filled 10TB drive that puts Seagate’s offering to shame.

Western Digital subsidiary, HGST, is responsible for the breakthrough which uses “Shingled Magnetic Recording” technology to increase capacity. Here’s Seagate’s simplified definition of the tech:

SMR achieves higher areal densities by squeezing tracks closer together. Tracks overlap one another, like shingles on a roof, allowing more data to be written to the same space. As new data is written, the drive tracks are trimmed, or shingled.

This allows for some astronomically high storage figures without enlarging the 3.5″ form factor, pushing the boundaries of what was previously imaginable. What’s more, HGST’s drive is filled with lighter-than-air helium, reducing friction and wear on the 7200rpm platters which in turn increases drive life and efficiency. And this is on the back of Earth’s current helium crisis; not that HDD companies could be bothered. HGST wants to shelve the shipping of air-only drives by 2017, replacing them with helium. Of course, that is if there is any left.

Nevertheless, Western Digital has also announced its “Cold Storage” Ae HDD range, which promises fossil-like data retention for businesses that need to store a vast array of data, but needn’t access it daily. Western Digital recommends it for photographers or legal professionals, so it may find its way into consumer machines in the near future.

While Western Digital may be winning the current battle, Seagate plans to ship 20TB drives by 2020, so the storage war is well and truly on.

First look at the Mercedes AMG GT

Our first look at the Mercedes AMG GT
Watch out Porsche 911 and F-Type, there’s a new contender in town…
Stephen Dobie09 September 2014

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/merce...d-2014-9-9

[Image: image.jpg?OriginalImageUrl=%2fuk%2fasset...Height=347]

It’s finally here. After teasing us for several months, including a highly informative ride in a heavily camouflaged prototype, Mercedes has finally whipped the covers off the new Mercedes AMG GT proper. It effectively replaces the SLS AMG, but does so in a very different part of the sports car market. Watch your back, Porsche 911.

It’s the second car entirely developed by AMG, but it’s the first Mercedes to drop ‘Benz’ from its name as a result. It follows a similar recipe to the SLS, with a V8 engine in the front driving the rear wheels.

But unlike the SLS, the GT’s engine is turbocharged. Two turbos are mounted inside the 4-litre V8’s cylinder banks – an approach Mercedes calls ‘hot inside V’ – which means they react quicker, to help the GT get close to the razor sharp throttle response of naturally aspirated rivals. The size of the powerplant is also reduced as a result, meaning it can slot behind the front axle in a front-mid position, better balancing the GT’s 1540kg weight.

The engine comes in two flavours. The base AMG GT gets a 456bhp, 443lb ft tune that is good for 0-62mph in 4 seconds and a 189mph top speed. The more potent AMG GT S produces peaks of 503bhp and 479lb ft, lopping 0.2sec from the sprint to 62mph and upping the Vmax to 193mph, though Mercedes claims both top speeds are electronically limited.

Both engines are hooked up to a seven-speed twin-clutch paddleshift gearbox, while the GT S benefits from an extra suite of technology to make it the more focused car of the two. There’s a performance exhaust system (with variable flaps, allowing the sound to be adjusted to your needs, thus avoiding irked neighbours), an electronic differential (said to be more sensitive than the GT’s mechanical equivalent) and adjustable dampers (optional on the base GT).

A wealth of options can be specced, including dynamic engine and transmission mounts (designed to stop unwanted movement, Porsche offers these engine mounts on its sports cars, but Merc is the first to have them for the whole drivetrain), plus carbon-ceramic brakes, forged alloy wheels and Michelin Cup tyres.

Mercedes talks up ‘highly neutral behaviour’ from the chassis, but with three stages of stability control – the most extreme being ‘ESP OFF’ – the big skids that AMG is known and loved for should still be present and correct. Jolly good.

And the looks? Well, the gullwing doors of the SLS are no more, replaced by entirely conventional openings. Boo. But the GT is a very purposeful looking thing. We’ve already had a poke around it in person, and its proportions are a little different to AMG’s outgoing senior sports car. There’s no escaping hints of 911 in the window-line and F-Type Coupe in the rear three-quarter, but overall the GT exudes some serious hot rod vibes.

One interesting detail is where the bonnet meets the windscreen. Or rather where it doesn’t. The fact the two are separate allows a much steeper rake for the front screen, with benefits to visibility as well as styling; the tall, dome-like passenger compartment has more than a whiff of Merc’s glorious old Mille Miglia racers to it.

There’s a rear wing that extends and retracts depending on speed and driving mode, and it’s part of an in-depth aerodynamics package that runs from the front splitter to rear diffuser via an almost flat underbody.

The Mercedes-AMG GT will be among the stars of the Paris motor show, where we can expect to hear more about it. Pricing is yet to be confirmed, but a starting point of £90,000 would seem about right. A roadster and a slightly demonic Black Series version ought to follow in due course, too.

But we want to know what you think. Can this be a credible 911 alternative? Or are you going to miss those cool doors and the extra muscle of the SLS?

Removing Speaker Wiring (MP issue)

Hi All,

Need some help with regards to some legacy wiring from the previous owner of my car.

Situation:
Boot light isn't working (never did since I bought it, but always forgot about it when I went to service the car). I remembered on this occasion and asked BMW to sort it out.

They give me the following response (after checking):
"As far as we could ascertain , non- approved wiring have been fitted to the battery , (also tapping into the wiring harness) would appear that it could be a tracking device . This have been attached to the boot light fitting as well."

So, I asked the tracker company and they came and investigated said its not the tracker, therefore its some sound installation stuff. Bought car in Durban from a fellow charou so its a likely reason.

So, I'm in the following pickle, BMW wants the wiring back to BMW standards and have said it will have MP implications if not sorted out.

I have the following options:
1) Car when purchased went through the full BMW check before motorplan handover. I can start throwing a fuss that this should have been picked up at the check up and at every service since I got the car. They have quoted me roughly 4k to sort the issue out.
Pros: I feel righteous
Cons: Protracted battle with BMW with no clear outcome

2) Pay a respected audio install shop to sort out the issue out to bmw standards
Pros: Cheaper?
Cons: I don't know any respectable shops and not sure how much it should cost

3) Sort it out myself.
Pros: Super cheap if it works out.
Cons: I have no clue what I'm doing, but I'm a quick learner

So fanatics, I'm leaning towards option 2 or 3. Can someone please advise which option I should go for and recommend either audio shops or DIY guides that would be useful?

Thanks!

Advice needed for falsely owing money

$

Hi guys

So I need some urgent advice.

About 5 years ago I took my very first loan for the amount of 4000, the amount was paid up about 20 months after (Account was paid before required time period). The past 3 months I have been fighting with a firm called VVM, they claim that I owe "Direct Axis" just over R17K, I have tried explaining numerous times to them that this is not true and have even emailed them statements proving this fact, but they just directly call me a liar and that I need to make a payment arrangement. The next day a different consultant phones me and it start all over again. They are even phoning my office and leaving messages which is very embarrassing

Clearly I do not know what to do anymore, as these idiots do not listen, when I ask for paperwork they say I have a contract with Direct axis and need to phone them. When I phone direct axis to sort the mess out I am told that I need to speak with VVM as they do not have the account anymore.

What am I to do now?

As a side note, I do receive monthly credit reports, and this is not on there.
