Mplan Friendly Tyres

$

Hi Guys,

I may ave to change tyres based on a puncture I have in two spots close too each other on the same tyre....

I have heard the certain tyres on the z4 ///M are not Mplan friendly. Before calling BMW, i wanted to find out if you guys know of which tyres are Mplan friendly on a Z4M...

I plugged it in the interim but now also have the issue of the tyre pressure indicator light constantly lit up red and not sure how to reset this, even though the pressures are fine in all the tyres. I did try holding down the button to reset it but no avail.... Any thoughts?

Thanks...

Rythmic Thud-e46 330d LHS fender

HOWSIT gents,

Having a bizzare issue with my 330d. The missus rolled the car into someone's towbar so the bumper kakked. Had it replaced by insurance and while I was there I out new headlights and fogs as well.

Since I collected it it has had a intermittent thud in the wheel arch. I lifted the bonnet and found that the light itself on the LHS was clicking and thudding in the exact same rythmic action and it stopped when you turned the light off. Cool, no hassles.

Today I drive the car and the thudding returns with lights off totally, open the bonnet and the sound appears to be coming from the inside of the fender but in the exact same rythm.

Called Gizmo and he suggested unplugging the motors in the lights which I did and as yet the car hasn't thudded BUT does anyone have any idea what's up??

F30 Side Splitters

Hi all,

Anyone know where I can find these as aftermarket parts (non-OEM)?

I'm talking about the actual splitter that attaches to the rocker on M-Sport models.

I couldn't be fussed about the black M-sport decal running down the sill.

The black plastic bit under the decal...(see pic)

I can find front splitters, diffusers, tail splitters etc., but nobody does these?

The Aston Martin Vanquish Carbon Is A Spectacularly Beautiful Special Edition

Aston hasn't changed much for this new version of the Vanquish, but the results of this mild fiddle are stunning

Sometimes, special edition cars are little more than a handful of added aesthetic trinkets, coupled to a price hike. That’s pretty much all this Aston Martin Vanquish Carbon Edition is, but in this case we don’t care, as the visual tweaks have made an already handsome car even prettier, and it looks fantastic in these wonderfully moody official shots.
[Image: aston-martin-vanquish-carbon-2-5411c7df2fbd9.jpg]
It can be purchased in either ‘Carbon White’ or ‘Carbon Black,’ has black window surrounds, a splash of new brake calliper paint, and a set of 10-spoke, gloss black alloy wheels. On the inside, there’s a Bang & Olufsen sound system with black anodised speaker grilles, Herringbone carbonfibre trim in various places, and quilted leather trim.
[Image: aston-martin-vanquish-carbon-3-5411c7387fa86.jpg]
The 6.0-litre V12 under the bonnet remains unchanged, but with 565bhp on tap, it’s probably powerful enough for most already.

The car will make its debut at the Paris motor show, and will set you back £199,995 - about £7000 more than the regular Vanquish.

I drive an E46 325ti A/T Compact and for a while now when I turn on the ignition all the lights and radio comes on but the car does not start. I replaced the battery yesterday but today it did the same. After switching of and reinserting the key the car starts. What could be the problem?

DrivePro 200 DashCam Review

I sourced a Transcend DrivePro 200 dashcam and it arrived today. Below is a short review of the product.

Firstly lets get the price out the way - R1,790+vat

On opening the box, I was nothing less than impressed with the good quality packaging. Everything was neatly packaged and well presented. A good start. The contents of the box were as follows:

- Camera
- Manual
- 3M double sided windscreen mounting bracket
- A spare 3M Double sided tape
- Cigarette lighter power plug with a nice long cable
- 16GB Transcend Micro SD card
- S-Video connector

The supplier also decided to include a Suction Windscreen mounting bracket which was very pleasing to me. I was dreading the idea of the 3M bracket as it’s all a bit too permanent for me.

I was parked waiting to fetch someone when I unpacked the device, so I read the manual which is something I wouldn’t usually do. I read that the camera is wifi compatible, and wondered what that meant. On reading further, it stated that there is an iPhone and Android app that one can download and through the wifi you can connect your device to the DrivePro 200 and configure and/or watch the recorded videos. Not sure if I will ever use this feature, but it was quite cool. Who knows, I may find a use for it.

On the settings menu there was a lot to choose from. I am not here to give a full comprehensive review. This camera has a nice list of settings, and covers all areas. The G-sensor feature is where the device makes an emergency recording if it senses any sort of impact or big change in G-Force. I found this to be too sensitive and taking a corner slightly quicker than Captain Slow and it beeps EMERGENCY RECORDING. I will probably disable this feature.

An Emergency Recording is one that is saved into a different folder which is secure and the files contained within are not deleted as the recordings loop. You can also activate this Emergency Recording feature manually by pressing the red Emergency button on the side of the device.

On to the camera quality. This particular camera is capable of two video modes, 1080p @ 30fps and 720p @ 30fps. The quality is awesome. I was very impressed. See video below.(Ensure you select HD on YouTube otherwise you are not going to see good quality. I will take night time footage and post tomorrow).

If anyone wants the original video I can make it available for download. It’s about 30MB. A 3 minute recording on 1080p will be about 360MB.

The lens has many advanced features of camera much more expensive.

Another thing I liked, which some might not, is the camera is not battery powered. It is capacitor based, which means it has to be constantly powered by the provided cigarette lighter/USB cable. The reason I went for this model is due to our climate. The battery operated models tend to overheat in the hotter climates and you end up with numerous battery problems which I couldn't be bothered with. With the cable being so long, it’s not very difficult to tuck it neatly into the corners and down to the cigarette lighter power source.

There is only one disappointing feature on this dashcam which may or may not be a deal breaker for some. The microphone and speaker are desperately under amplified. You can edit the movie and amplify the sound yourself, but out the box it’s a bit dismal. I knew this before I bought the unit, so I was not too stressed.

If I had to rate the camera out of 10, taking into consideration price and quality, I would give it an 8.5. The other reviews on the net seem to be inline with my rating.

You are welcome to pm me for further info.

---------------------------------------------------

Update:
Night time footage. Now this footage is along a very dark highway with no street lights.

Remember to watch in HD and bear in mind some quality loss on the conversion from 360MB to 30MB

BMWFanatics Clarens 2014!

$

Wow, a week on and the memories are as fresh as if it happened yesterday, yes, that was the effect of the BMWFantics Clarens run 2014!
Shew, where to start, lets go back to what we were trying to achieve, getting our 2 biggest provinces to have a single meet-up together, share the stories from across South Africa in one location, since we don’t do that in person, the idea of Clarens emerged as the ideal solution, a mid way point between the 2 provinces, a beautiful beautiful location with some amazing roads to enjoy our cars, and a serene guest lodge to relax for the night before doing it all over the next day.
To try and give you a brief summary of the events (of which I will fail woefully) is as follows, Gauteng and KZN convoys rolled out at 9am, with some spirited driving along the way, both arrived at the designated meet up spot for lunch which was Harrismith where Nandos and Wrap it up was on the menu. After being well fuelled (and fed) we departed at 1pm as a single BMWFanatics convoy through to the Golden Gate hotel.
We merged onto the highway like something out of transformers, all these amazing machines on the road, determined to get to their location. The journey was approximately 70km on some really amazing roads which were quite deserted, and a beautiful back drop of scenery, breath taking.
We entered into the national park and stopped for a number of photo shoots while admiring the beauty the landscape offered, it really was something, man and machine in natures perfect setting.

After getting to the resort and settling in, we setup our braai and grouped all our furniture together, making a great atmosphere for us to relax and bond over some lekker food, great company and a rather large mountain in front of us. Supper eventually finished around 8-30ish and it was time for the first half of the hampers generously donated by Fuzz, Crazy detailer and Ice-chilli designs who sponsored cleaning kits, specially made Key rings engraved with the BMW fanatics logo and license disk holders with the same design as well.

After that was done the night eventually started to wind down around 1-30am by when most of us headed to bed. Fast forward to 7ish the following morning everyone enjoyed a hearty meal together reflecting on the previous nights antics, breakfast done, we held the lucky draws for the other vouchers offered by our generous sponsors namely, AXIS Engineered, OCD Detailing, Ice Chilli designs, Crazy Detailer, Fuzz Detailing and a private benefactor. We closed with the vote of thanks to everyone that attended followed by a group picture that was taken by all present.
We headed back to the Engen Bergview to get a quick bite and also say goodbye to our brothers from KZN and G, feeling sad that the trip flew by so quickly we departed for the long journey back home, every single one of us thinking earnestly about Clarens 2015.

It was a fantastic weekend, a huge thank you to all the organisers and all that attended, it truly was a trip I suspect will not be matched easily and will remain with us forever, we truly became brothers.

BMWFanatics @ Clarens 2014! Thank you for the memories!

HVAC vacuum pumps

$

Hi Folks,

As you may or may not be aware, some of the older (rear american) cars make use of a vacuum system to operate the aircon flaps inside the car, such as the demister, floor vents ect.

This principle was even used on the E23.

Basically when you switch to say footwell air, it uses vacuum to pull an actuator, which in turns opens/closes the vent.

Now my trans am has this.

There are many of the new cars, american, that still uses this system, but instead of taking vacuum from the engine/carb, they use an electrically powered vacuum pump with its own built in reservoir.

Does anybody know how many such modern cars that are stocked in SA, that I can go buy the part from the dealer.

I dont want to go the OEM/carb route, as I fear vacuum leaks, and the aircon in that car has not worked in 15+ years....

I currently have a ford focus ST and a E36 328i as my weekend drives ,I was looking at getting a E60 530i/d to replace both these my question is how much of a difference is there between maintaining an E90 and E60 and are the parts easy to find at midas and other spares shops I don't want to end up at the stealers everytime I need brakes or plugs.

For those who have the same model What is your fuel consumption?

I filled up on Thursday, did 112km so far, car says I have 498km to go.

Is this about normal? I think it's a bit much.

I did urban driving including highways and exposed to a bit of traffic thus far.

Thanks
