Hi Fanatics
As some of you might might know, Elton_LV has got himself a minter of an E36 M3 coupe

Elton got in touch with me to get this beaut detailed - I accepted because:
1. I love E36 M3s
2. I love detailing
3. This car is just beautiful
4. Did I mention my love for E36 M3s??
The colour of the car - Avus Blau Metallic. One of the best colours to grace an M car in my opinion! This car already looked soooooo good, and is easily one of the best kept E36 M3s in SA - It was an honour to have my work associated with this car!
Elton dropped this puppy off on Friday afternoon, and I got to work...
Agenda:
Friday: Wash, Interior and Wheels
Saturday: Polish and Exterior
Sunday: Refinish, Final Touches, Sprucing Up
Tools and products worth mention:
Flex XC 3401 VRG - Awesome, versatile and hard working polisher
Scholl S3 Gold - Cuts like a boss
Scholl Concepts White Spider Sandwich Pad - I'll use no other compounding pad in the future
Auto Finesse Hide Cleanser and Conditioner - Top quality results and so easy to use!
Auto Finesse Dressle - This plastic trim finisher is just so great to use and the results are just phenomenal!
BlackFire Polish and Sealant - My new 'Go To' product for darker coloured cars
Crazy Detailer MicroFibre Cloths - The unsung heroes of my detailing exploits
Summary:
So with the car washed:
I proceeded to inspect the paint, and found all sorts of nasty swirling and light to mild scratches in the paintwork:
I was saving the polishing for Saturday, so I got stuck in with cleaning the wheels, and doing the interior of the car. I started off with wiping down the seats with a very MILD dilution of Cyclo APC, to get the deeper grime and dirt out. Once that was done, I immediately followed up with AF Hide Cleanser. This was probably a bit of over kill, but the smell of this stuff (Lime) is amazing, and I used it just as a base to go with the conditioner. With that done, the leather went from being shiny to that lovely matte sheen again. I then let the leather temper and dry off properly before I applied the AF Hide Conditioner. On my first application, the leather sucked it all up - so I went for a second, slightly thicker coat, which I left to cure overnight.
Here's a shot of the difference this treatment made - The passenger side being treated, and the driver's side untreated:
Note the matte and more 'white' finish on the passenger seat (the interior colour pack is Titan Grey)
The rest of the interior, that was leather, was treated the same way, all plastics were treated with AF Dressle. Dressle is a great trim / plastic dresser. Leaves behind that matte, OEM sheen and NO RESIDUE. It can also be applied in coats to get the desired finish. Here's a 50/50 of a dried trim piece that was given a single coat of Dressle. The left side has been treated, the right was not treated:
(note that I'm waiting for my AF Revive to arrive, so will test that at a later time)
When it came to polishing, it was a dream! Along came a Spider Pad, and sorted my issues out. The only downside to this pad is that they arrived a week too late, or it'd have made my work a lot easier on Gareth's E46 M3. This pad polishes with ease when used with S3 Gold once it softens up (usually after a few passes) and you really don't need to exert any hectic pressure at all while polishing - you just let the pad to all the work!
Here's a 50/50 of a section, left unpolished, right polished:
It's also worth mention that for a compounding pad, it finished down the S3 really well, so I could do this car in one step, no mess, no dust, no fuss.
