NEWBIE, Bye VAG .... Hello F20 M125i
Hi all
So me and my GF decided to move away from the VAG's, to try something different a bit... Sold the Roc R and bought the 2015 M125 8speed auto.
Will arrive this week from SMG Durban.
Wanted to buy the 135i, but since she is a lot on the road we opted for the 125i, bit lighter on juice![Clapper Clapper]()
Have a good one gents

Im new to the site so i might ask questions you guys have already answered a 100 times, apologies in advance! Im looking to start doing soft wear and down pipe! Firstly i went to a couple guys to remove the cats of the standerd dp but was told it cant be done with out doing softwear, is this true?
I was looking at dp but noticed some dp is bigger(fatter) than others, does this have an effect on performance or does it only have effect on exhaust sound?
Thanx

Has anybody seen these hoverboard things floating around?
Hi guys
I know this is random to be my first post, but today my 7 year old daughter was nagging me about these new hoverboard electrical scooters that has been tredning over the past few weeks. I have read mixed articles about the safety of these things and another issues is unlike USA or Europe, their dont seem to be any legit sellers in the south african market, maybe only a few Chinese models on gumtree and this site I happen to come accross, http://www.hover-board.co.za
Anyways just wondering if anybody has had experience here?

Introducing: The RaceChip Ultimate Connect 2016
Our experience with RACECHIP:
Rennzport has been a reseller of the Racechip since 2013. The product has mainly been a hit and miss experience for buyers of different car models. The chip faired better on diesel cars (sometimes) but on the higher spec petrol cars we have experienced and read about customer frustrations.
Some of the issues reported included:
* Lack of power
* Loss of power
* Erratic power delivery
* Finding the right power balance or mapping by tweaking the rotary dials on the chip
* Tweaking for the best fuel consumption
* A pretty BUT badly written installation and instruction guide
So here comes along the newest and latest "Racechip Ultimate Connect" and its available for a large number of diesel cars at this stage.
On the surface the packaging is the same. The familiar fiberglas reinforced plastic and watertight casing. The familiar easy to install plug & play harness and carrying over the Racechip Ultimate very fast 48MHz. processor. But that is where the similarities end.
Under the skin they very different:
Here is a picture of the old version with the rotary control switch.

The new RaceChip Ultimate Connect is now all controlled via your smartphone. The app can be downloaded from the google playstore or the app store for free

The harness looks the same as the previous Racechip Ultimate but has an extra wire to the Racechip to allow bluetooth and internet connectivity; and to switch power modes and receive automatic updates without touching or removing the chip. Gone are the days of opening the chip to change performance settings or to revert the car to stock settings. More about this later.![=) =)]()
The package included a proper installation guide and instruction and troubleshooting guide:

Choosing the diesel test vehicle was easy![Rollsmile Rollsmile]()
Between the X1, X3, 120d I chose the Amarok 2.0 BiTDI
The 132Kw model is a fantastic, big pickup truck without question but oooooh..... the LAG on this car is frustrating which makes overtaking a carefully planned move
I was keen to see if the new Racechip could smooth out the driving dynamics.
Installation is pretty simple: Plug in the common rail and boost pressure plugs and you ready to experience the driving pleasure.
Then open the Racechip app on your smartphone. Scan or manually punch in the supplied serial number on the app to make a connection to the Racechip hardware. The software will identify your vehicle.
The app menu provides 3 drive modes: Efficiency, Sport and Race mode which can be selected by touching the app screen with instant map changes.
Efficiency: for more power & torque with the greatest efficiency.
Sport: for an immediate and significant power increase.
Race: for maximum performance with up to 30% more power.
As a safety feature maps can only be changed while the car is stationary. No...on the fly map switching.
A very cool feature includes a warm-up timer which determines the number of minutes from when the engine starts until the activation of the performance increase. The timer can be set between 0 - 15minutes. Its a great feature to allow the engine oil to warm up after a cold start.
If you prefer the cars OEM map you can switch to complete stock instantly using the app.
But I cant imagine that you would want to do this unless for troubleshooting purposes.
The app is easy to navigate and to personalise a profile to your liking.
Impressions:
So what do I think? Well I think Racechip has hit a home run with this major chip tuning upgrade. Its super easy to use, safe and fun with the most important benefit that it makes power.
I am happy to report the dreaded LAG is gone. After testing the various maps, I settled on the efficiency economy map. The power is enough for my daily use and fuel consumption is the added benefit. However, I did not notice much of a fuel saving in daily traffic but on the open road its very noticeable. I will review this after a few months again and compare fuel usage between stock and efficiency maps.
The race map is overkill for the Amarok maybe when pulling a caravan? I think its too much power and urgency for such a big truck.
If you still not happy with the power then you can request a more powerful map from Racechip which you can flash to the chip via the app.![Blowheart Blowheart]()
I hope to put the ROK on the dyno soon and see the power differences between the maps![Thumbs Thumbs]()
Six very cool features are worth a mention again:
1. Revert to complete stock via Bluetooth without opening the chip.
2. Engine warm-up safety timer.
3. Automatic updates via wifi
4. Search for updates or downloading new maps via the app.
5. Bluetooth connectivity.
6. A fast 48MHz. processor.

If you still not happy with the power then you can request a more powerful map from Racechip which you can flash to the chip via the app.

I hope to put the ROK on the dyno soon and see the power differences between the maps

6. A fast 48MHz. processor.

The Intern
I think this has to be one of the best movies for 2015. Call me a tart/softie or whatever. Great movie, had the "knop" in the throat effect. Worth while watching with the Mrs.

Newbie.... Threading lightly
hey guys,
For the last 20 odd years, I've driven Mercedes, and yes, I still think Mercedes is an amazing car.
However.............fate & i guess the universe directed me towards buying a BMW. So, I'm now the owner of a beautiful X5 3l diesel. I must say, the car is impressive. That said, only time will tell whether or not I've been denying myself excellence, or whether i'll go back to Mercedes.
Hopefully, I'll find a few pointers and tips on this forum. I mean, I might need a bit of advice on how to manage the switch over. Will I need to:
leave earlier than usual to get to my destinations on time?![Thumbdown Thumbdown]()
carry tools in the car?![Skit Skit]()
join the AA?![Cry Cry]()
learn to hitch hike?![CoolShake CoolShake]()
wear a seat belt?![RedNo RedNo]()
I guess I've started off on the wrong foot here![Rofl Rofl]()
Let me try again.
hey guys
newbie to the wonderful world of BMW owners. I look forward meeting new friends and to many enjoyable hours of driving bliss.

E83 Heater issues
Good day, compliments for 2016.
I am posting this thread to ask for advice, and to make life a bit easier for anyone else who might experience this issue in future. I have had numerous successes on technical issues just by reading old posts. So here goes my first post;
My 2007 X3 has automatic climate control, single-zone. Yesterday while driving the auto-temp was set to 22Deg - as always - and I realized the air was not as cold as the day before. The air in the two center dash vents were cold'ish, and the side vents cold. If I set the distribution to either the windscreen or the foot well, the air is very warm. ONLY the two side dash vents are cold.
After reading old posts - haha - I removed the heater valve, tested it, it works 100%. I then found that if I disconnected the auxiliary water pump, the heater valve closed and everything went back to 100% working order. I left it unplugged with the aim to open the motor of the pump this afternoon. On my way to work while driving, the issue returned, the heater valve opened again and the cabin started heating. All this without me touching the controls on the climate control.
My feeling is that it is not anything with the air-distribution-box, the air gets distributed fine, I just think that the heater valve is not suppose to open under the current circumstances.
Any help or ideas will be appreciated
