I have a 2013 E92 M3 with 21,000km on the clock . My Motorplan expires at the end of August this year . Have just received a quote from BMW for R36k to extend for 1 year !!! Was just wondering what other members had done with regards to extending their Motorplans?? R36k seems very excessive for a 1 year extension!!!!

F80 M3 High Oil Consumption
For those of you that have F8X M's, how often are you topping up with Oil.
A week after I got the car I got a low oil warning and had a liter put in. +-5000Km later and the warning has come back on. This is the first car that I've ever had to top up with oil between services...

Whining/Buzzing noise coming from speakers
Hi all,
recently purchased a BMW X1 E84. Upon test driving it, the car was flawless and didn't experience any issues.
When collecting the car i noticed a whining/buzzing noise coming from around the dashboard area. When inspecting it closer i noticed that the sound was coming from the speakers.
After some investigation work i picked on the following:
1. When unlocking the car there is no noise. As soon as i opened the car door or inserted the key into the ignition, the noise started.
2. Switching the car stereo Off and On had no effect on the noise.
3. The noise sounded static. I had the impression that it sounded like a wire was not connected properly (loose).
4. Even with music in the background, the noise was still there. Constantly the same volume.
5. My sound is not modified or aftermarket. I confirmed this with an Audio shop.
6. Every time i shifted between the AUX, CD, and RADIO, it sounded like i could hear the internals of the head unit working.
7. The only way to stop the noise was to switch off the car and remove the key from the ignition.
Now, for the fun part. I did some research upon countless websites (local and overseas) and picked up that this is a common issue with the head unit of certain BMW models. It seems that different methods were used to try and fix the issue at hand, both expensive (head unit replacement) to cheaper alternatives.
I came upon the below link:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=973985
I decided to give this a bash before sending the car through to BMW for an inspection.
Just to note, i did NOT go through the fuse box steps in the beginning of the thread. I headed straight into removing the head unit.
I unplugged all the cabling/wiring that was connected to the head unit and made sure that it was properly secured upon reconnection.
And VOILA, it worked. The whining/buzzing sound was gone.
Its been 24 hours since the fix and no whining/buzzing noise experienced.
I used the below 2 youtube videos to help in guiding me on how to remove the head unit.
The first one is a detailed one which shows you how to remove the cabling and re-installing it again.
The second video shows you how to remove the unit if you have the Auto air con unit installed. You will see the difference between the two and there is a difference when uninstalling both.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUtFLuWpGr0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBjwmRelR8Q&t=70s
If you have the same issue as i had, i would recommend the above steps on trying to fix it. Its straight forward and wont cost you a cent to fix.
Good luck and please let us know what the outcome was.

BMW 329D E90 2005 Auto Tranny
Hi All.
I have ZF6hp19 Tranny in my 320D e90 2005.
the tranny was in limp mode (stuck in 3rd gear) when all of a sudden, there was a loud clap sound and no more gears, even reverse. but park still worked
I removed the gearbox, drive shaft still in place and diff works 100%.
and when you turn (by hand) the torque converter the output shaft turns aswell
so I maybe thought 3rd gear has died completely, but reverse didnt work aswell.
what is your input on this situation?

Warranty
Hey Guys and Girls. I hope all of you are well.
I just thought it would be nice to share as a warning for you all...
So I had a downpipe in my m235i and my car went in to get a front lip refitted... bmw SA just happened to stroll in and take a look at my car, my warranty was “suspended” which is pretty much cancelled and there’s nothing I can do about it.
I just wanted to let all of you know LOL
don’t forget to remove your parts before you go to any bmw no matter what you go there for...
My stupidity on my behalf I know but yes. This probably isn’t of any help but thought I would share anyway
However, my sound system and rims weren’t recorded on the system... only my intake and downpipe. So I’m pretty sure aftermarket rims are fine and sound should be fine too but I don’t wanna give any false info..
Sorry for rambling on lol but yeah

Power loss and harder starting when warm
Hello! I got a bmw e36 with a m52b20 swap, lately it started giving me headaches.... First off it started to stall out when in neutral or clutched in, then it stopped after a week doing so but then came even greater problems.... When the engine reaches operating temperature it has almost no power, hillclimb or even just a slight uphill is a nightmare, not possible to pull, just barely in 2nd gear.... The rev limiter hits at 5200rpm and then it feels like the car cuts off the ignition.... When the engine is warm, it starts more rough and it needs more cranks... There is even a sound from the camshaft if there were stuck hydraulic lifters, the so known ticking, which is getting worse as the engine warms up
MAF is ok
No VAC leaks (tested with smoke)
CKS shows healthy 586-601ohms resistance
CPS shows 14ohms resistance
Any help would be appreciated because the worst problem is that I am unable to find a mechanic with a Diagnostic tool where I live....

F90 BMW M5 Dyno - 466 wkW !!!
Dyno Run Suggests The BMW M5 Could Really Be Pushing 690bhp
A dyno run carried out on a freshly run-in F90 M5 suggests that it could be putting out as much horsepower at the flywheel as a Ferrari 488!
Hold onto your hats, people, because the F90 BMW M5 seems to be making way, way more power than advertised.
BMW will tell you it’s good for 592bhp and 553lb ft at the crank, which is a lot. But YouTube channel IND Distribution has just put its own – standard – car on a dyno and reached figures of 625bhp and 608lb ft… at the wheels. In four-wheel drive.
![[Image: 25b98793318052c6c103633b4d5b2e66_3750695623.jpg]]()
If those numbers really are correct for this just-run-in F90 M5, allowing for a guesstimate drivetrain loss of 10 per cent, it would mean BMW is underestimating the M5’s figures by about 100bhp and well over 100lb ft. It would make it about as powerful as a Ferrari 488…
At 1855kg the M5 is a fair bit heavier than the 1544kg 488 GTB, but even with a 311kg deficit we have to admit we’re sceptical that the M5 can really be putting out quite that much of the good stuff…

N52 Faults and advice needed
Hi Guys,
Have a few questions with regards to some faults I'm having with my 325i.
Mileage: 135xxx KM
Fault 1: Misfire on cylinder 1.
I've noticed for the past few months that on idle the car would vibrate seldomly. This was so subtle that no one else noticed (but I knew it was there). Yesterday while driving, the car sounded like a V8 with an exhaust leak and it was pinging under load. Scanned the codes and it showed that I have a misfire on cylinder 1.
To my surprise, the car drove absolutely fine today (better than when I first bought it!). Throttle response was better, felt like it had much more power and the gearbox seemed happier and always in 'power' ranges (down and up shifts were much better and the car overall was much more responsive).
My questions:
1. How do I know if its plugs or coilpacks?
2. Should I just change all 6 now (to avoid having the annoyance of the other 5 slowly coming up)
3. If I change one, will a difference in brand (the new one vs the existing 5) make a significant difference?
4. Your brand of choice?
Fault 2: Two errors stating that catalytic converter 1 and 2 is missing
1. I haven't done a decat on this car and the cats are definitely still there. What's gives?
Thanks in advance

F30 spare wheel options
Hi,
I would like to get a spare wheel for my car. I don't need oodles of boot space, so I am willing to sacrifice some boot space for a space saver spare wheel and a jack. Please advise if anyone has done this and what has been your experience.
My main requirements are neatness and ease of use.
Thanks.
