Mercedes C63 m156 blows up?

I'v e been considering a C63 facelift for a while now, so naturally as we all do, I started doing my homework on these cars. Reviews in general ranged from good, great, infact it is seen as an excellent alternative to BMW "M-cars" altogether, so I was sold....Well until I stumbled across this here article about a class action suit against Mercedes Benz relating to the "catastrophic failure " of M156 motor in the 63 range

http://www.jacobregarlaw.com/Blog/2013/F...he-M1.aspx

...So I kept my fingers crossed and hoped that it was limited to the Old E-Class you know, the W206 range and prayed that it didn't effect the C63 as well...Well, I was in for some bad news, after bit more research I found that a number of class action suits has been lodged against MB, all of them relating to "catastrophic engine" failure :cry:phc...numerous C63 owners complaining of a ticking sound coming from the engine just after reaching the 100k mark on the Odo and then having he motor blow up soon there after...went on youtube and sure enough there were footage of C63 sounding like tractors!! Apparently Cam followers and Camshafts are to blame.Nono....but I had hope, didn't we have a bearing problem which also caused "catastrophic failure" in the early e46 M3 models? ( I know what u gonna say, "BMW stepped up and fixed the bearings and more important they updated the s54")..True. now why Iam starting this thread is to establish how the C63's are behaving in South Africa, because ive seen quite a few with 150k-170k on them... especially after reading article in hellopeter below,

My husband(49 yrs)purchased his dream car on the 13th September 2013. A red C63 AMG Black Series Mercedes. We've been through 3 Mercs over a period of 5 years( C32AMG,2009 C350 Avantgarde,2009 C63 AMG).
He enjoyed three weeks of driving bliss, then the joy turned to utter horror. While driving home from a family visit 15 Kms away the car suddenly stopped. Oil spewing out the engine and smoke started coming out the engine and exhaust.
We made contact with Merc on call, they came out and towed the car to Merc Constantia.
We where told that there's two holes in the engine block! Two pistons went through the engine block!!!! A new engine costing 800 000(excl vat) needed.

My husbands first interaction with Merc: "what speed where you going"
HELLO!!! High performance car even if you going 300 should not produce this result. Thank goodness for tracking devices, I pulled a report and the car has never been over the 180km mark.

This is not a Rant of a Rave for what happened to the owner in the above post, just thought I would share... to make tings worse iam fresh from reading an excellent review on the new Golf 7R,by Adamr never thought I would pay R500K for a golf, so if there are any C63 owners out there please please share your experience with me and give me a reason not to pay Half Bar for a GolfNono

SA SPEC e28 m5 55000 Pounds!

Utterly Beautiful. One of the +- 100 m5's built at Roslyn .

http://www.classicandsportscar.com/class...m5/2375728

"Munich Legends are immensely proud, privileged and excited to announce the arrival of one of the rarest and most sought after BMW M cars in the world – a right hand drive E28 M5. With absolutely immaculate factory original (and incredibly rare) Henna red coachwork and full M tech aero kit, unblemished natur Lotus extended leather interior and showing a mere 39000 miles (62691kms) this beautiful M5 is truly an exceptional car.
Powered by the M88 3.5 straight six engine adapted directly from their M1 supercar, the E28 was the very first M5 produced. There were a total of only 283 E28 M5s made in RHD by BMW between March 1986 and November 1988. As one of the 96 E28 M5s made at the BMW Rosslyn facility in South Africa (No 5) this RHD car is certainly special. Manufactured in October 1987 it was delivered on the 29th September 1987 to Mr H Back, a wealthy collector, by SA BMW dealers Stuart Bromfield Motors in Jo’burg, where it returned six weeks later at 1776kms for its running in service. Having spent the nine years of its life in SA, the car emigrated with Mr H. Back to Australia in 1996. The car then spent its time travelling between concours competitions and shows around Australia (where M5s had not been available new and are therefore a rare treat) and was bought by the current owner in 2002 with only 22500 miles on the odometer. M5 ‘number 5’ has featured throughout its life in many magazines in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and is known worldwide as one of the best M5s still in existence.
M5 ‘number 5’ has been thoroughly inspected by our technical team and is in amazing mechanical and cosmetic condition. Coming from a dry part of the world, there is absolutely zero corrosion. Having carefully examined the paintwork and measured the paint depths with a paint gauge, ‘number 5’ can be verified as being on original factory paint - as confirmed by the owner - and has never had any additional paint applied, showing a consistent reading of between 80 – 140 microns across the car (factory depths vary slightly from panel to panel, and even within each panel). Unbelievably there are almost no stone chips; there isn’t a single defect in the paintwork. The interior is also factory original. There are no modifications of any sort. M5 ‘number 5’ is ‘out of the box’ fresh.
The number of right hand drive E28 M5s with this pedigree and in this condition worldwide may not exceed a dozen."

Test Drive Requirements

$

Hi Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me what is required for taking a pre owned car for a test drive at a dealership.

The last couple of months I have been saving up and toying with the idea of getting a diesel. Mainly an E90 320d. I am honest upfront with salesmen and tell them immediately that my parents will handle the finance. Mom and Dad both work in the week so I usually go alone. Ive learnt quite a lot from my grandad about cars so I know what to look and listen for.

In each case I let the dealer do the evaluation on my car and negotiated a good trade in and the dealer obtained my settlement information. But every time I have asked for a test drive, they denied my request telling me my parents need to be pre approved for the finance.

Is this really so as I dont want to waste my parents time by having them fill out all those papers only to find out the car isnt worth buying.

And just to be clear, 4 out of 5 dealerships I visited last week were BMW dealerships in the Randburg and surrounding areas.

I am currently 21, and got my lince in June 2011 with no accidents up to date. I test drove the Nissan Juke 1.6turbo in July 2011 without any hassles and took a used 2007 120i out in August 2011.

Out of date car ads.

Hey Guys, as already mentioned and ranted about. I have been searching for a good E90 320d lately as well as a Corsa OPC.

What is up with the dealerships advertising cars that have already been sold? Or cars that have been sold "but luckily theres also a more expensive one available".

I mean can it really be that hard to contact autotrader, gumtree etc to remove ads that are no longer valid or is it too much of an effort for dealers?

This specific example is still advertised on Autotrader and BMW Premium Selection. While I was told, after driving to Kunene Brothers Sandton two weeks ago, by Mr Mark Adams that the car has been sold.

Which Fuel and WHY?

Hi Member's

I am sure this had been covered before but could not find anything.

We all Love our car's and all worry about what we put into them so it brings me to this topic.

It could be all in my head but i honestly feel my car responds and behaves differently with different fuel.

I find the following,
BP - Best Millage and Smooth Power

Sasol - Best Power (Engine gets a little ruff with regards to sound and also a small burp from the exhaust every now and again) and Millage comes down a little compared to BP.

Engine - A combination of BP and Sasol, Good Millage and very Constant Power (More than what I get from BP and a little less than Sasol) but the overall drive is much smoother.

Shell - I find the Most Power is archived with Shell but find that the car burns Black and Millage is very bad (+-50KM less per tank)

I have not ever used any other Fuel on my BMW but i have used the Following on my VW,

Caltex - More Power than Engine and BP with better Millage (Car seems to idle a bit more heavy)

Please share your take on the above and experiences.

Hi Gents,

I`m a long-time BMW driver/fan (unfortunately on a budget) I`ve just bought a 2007 E90, I`ve got after-market rims on it and as a result my tyre pressure sensor warning light is always on. Anyone know how I can de-activate this or is it something the agents need to sort out ?

Thanks in advance

To be honest....really don't like the sound of the new M3/4 from this video.
It does sound quite nice with the exhaust, but why do you NEED to put an exhaust upgrade on an M?! Nono
Every other car in that video though tho Inlove Praise

E30 Fuel line pressure

Hi all,

Does anyone know how much pressure is the fuel pump supposed to generate on the E30's fuel line in to the engine?

Reason for my question: my 318i started missing yesterday and died on the way home and did not want to start again, when I removed the fuel hose going to the engine, it did not even drip out, never mind sprayed out, shouldn't there be pressure in the line even with the car off?

Thanks in advance

Start Stop

After contacting Numerous dealers about programming my Start Stop Function to remember my last selection. Only my dealer was prepaired to help me. Not one other dealer in Cape Town could or would Help me. Some said its not possible SMG and Auto Atlantic but they could disable it completely. Others just said it cant be done Like Auric and Tygervalley and Helderview.

Well to cut a long story short. The Correct and legal way to re-program the start stop function

All that has to be done is for the Tech to put in a request to BMW Technical head office. They will then send a unlock code that is valid for 3 days to let them program your start stop function on my F30 to remember the Last selection of the Start stop function.

It was done successfully today
