Another e46 spacers request.
Hi everyone.
I need some info on spacers and tyres.
I have oem e53 19 x 9 j 4 of them . So
according internet resources they run
215/35 at the front (which is stretch & I
dont like it) and 235-35 19 at the rear on
the 10j.
My decision is to run 225 35 or 225 40
profile on all 4 . Then I still need to keep in
mind the spacers size.
Any advice on this. Had my rear fenders
rolled when I run 9.5 j 265 35 18 at the
back in the past.
Thanks
sash respond with these questions and I reply to it.
not sure if i follow everything...,
you have 4 x 9j rims? Correct..
you dont like the stretch of 215 on a 9J rim?
Correct I fear the rim could get curb rash easily
without the tyrewall protecting it.
you want to run square tyres on a narrow wide set
of rims?
Narrow set no wides.
whats the offset of the wheels?
Stamp inside is EH2+IS48
My answers could change based on the
clarification above.
so do I need spacers also because of the offset so near each other..?
so any input from the other guys?

BMW M4 vs .....
With the new M4 almost fully specced at a touch over R1.2M, there are quite a few alternatives to consider in this price bracket and thought it would be interesting to get some opinions from everyone....
First up is a 997 Porsche Turbo (low mileage), I've driven one many times and loved it...yes it's outdated to a certain extent but it's still sexy, goes like a bat out of hell and has grip for days....
Second up is a brand new Porsche Cayman and Boxster GTS. I have not driven the Cayman or Boxster as yet but love the lines of the cars, reviews are all good...they down on power compared to the M4 but make up for it in the handling department...only 2 seats though making it less practical (if you need 4 seats that is).....
Thirdly is a low mileage Ferrari 360 Modena F1, mint condition, also outdated, down on power, but still a beautiful and capable car....again only 2 seats....
Lastly is a low mileage 997 Porsche GT3....again a great car...track capable...sexy and fast....
I'm sure there are plenty other great cars in this price bracket....feel free to add any if you like....keen to see everyone's thoughts
PS I have an M4 on order, and have pretty much made up my mind that I'm taking it...but thought this would be an interesting debate...

Evolution of GPS units
A bit off topic, but while browsing GPS units for my Toyota , I was quite surprised to see how the "cheaper/generic/knock-off" GPS units for older BMW's have evolved in terms of software interfaces. While some try to emulate the newer iDrive software, they have some really slick additions too.
Some examples (you need to go into the links, as you cannot copy pics):
Example 1
Example 2
NB: Not affiliated to any of these entities. I'm just flippen amazed how some of these software interfaces have evolved from the early "Dynavin only" days.

Vote - Which comes first :-)
For those of you at have followed this thread and I guess for those that haven't. ( http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=58819 )
In a few days or weeks time we will be starting a new car/project.
The tough part comes in here, a fellow Fanatic would like to purchase the black one (won't post the car make in text as it's a buzz kill for the rest of the read). I think he has a very similar passion for cars that I, Bruce and team do. So depending on which one you guys pick, the Fanatic may get his car (with a small buy back clause obviously hehe)
Will post a pic of the cars now and what I wish to achieve as a final product on each of them.
Car no.1. I bought this project off a friend 10 years ago, young me, thinking I could easily afford to fix it up, little did I know at the time, that my budget and what was required were two totally different things. Not being able to fix it as I would have liked back then, I have let it stand in waiting. As circumstances have changed (work hard, play harder) I can now afford to get it finished.
It's not a 325is, it's a 318i with a genuine kit, I saved and saved and added and added, but no matter how much I saved back then, I didn't come close. Under the hood is a surprise for now, if we build it, it could be the magical part of the entire car.
Car now
And what I would like it to be
Car no.2. I'd seen and heard of a 2dr MKII GTI standing idle. Little did I know that it would belong to a person I speak to once a month (he is both supplier and customer of mine), maybe a year of begging went by, and he suddenly gave in. I was almost shocked when he said we had a deal. Without delay I had the flatbed called up and on route to his house (petrol pump had gone after standing for many years). I could see he was emotional seeing it leave his premises.
Car now
And what I would like it to be
In your decision, do not worry which one would need more work, but rather, which one you would rather see on the road one day perhaps driving along side you :-)
I leave it to you to vote. (Will give it a week)
Taking into account the MKII may or may not be built and shown on this forum.

Eskom 'prepared' for NUM strike
Eskom 'prepared' for NUM strike
Tue, 05 Aug 2014 11:12 AM
http://business.iafrica.com/news/953001.html
Eskom says it's well prepared for an unprotected strike being threatened by its employees and unscheduled blackouts are highly unlikely.
Both the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) have warned they cannot be blamed for wildcat strikes if the power utility refuses to guarantee the right to down tools with a minimum service agreement.
On Monday the NUM staged a demonstration outside Eskom's headquarters in Megawatt Park but employees who took part now face disciplinary action.
This is after the Labour Court interdicted the union because Eskom has been declared an essential service.
The utility's managing director Andrew Etzinger said: "We have contingencies in place. We invoke those contingencies in times such as this. We've had walk-outs in the past and these contingencies have kept operations going, so we are prepared."
Meanwhile, Numsa is reportedly planning to approach the Labour Court today, in a bid to force the National Employers Association of South Africa (Neasa) to end a nationwide lock-out.
The lock-out started after the employer association rejected an agreement reached between Numsa and the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa (Seifsa), bringing a one-month strike for higher wages to an end.
The parties agreed to a salary increase of between 7.5 and 10 percent over three years but Neasa is only prepared to pay 8 percent.
Numsa treasurer Mphumzi Maqungo says of the 3000 companies Neasa represents, only 60 are taking part in the lock out.
"As the plan goes on we have employees under Neasa who have moved out, who do not agreeing with the employer’s position. They don’t believe it is the right approach."

Launch control question
Hi,
Is it possible to launch on the M Dynamic mode? I tried this many times but it will not engage the flag. I feel M Dynamic is better control compared to zero control with DSC off. If not , is it possible to bring the launch control rpm down to a lower rpm. In other words, can I set the rpm at 4500 without using the cruise control function each time.
I avoid launching as the car is unpredictable . But if I can do the above that will help with safety .
Thanks ,

Eastern Cape
Hi Guys, I decided to take the e92 for a spin this past weekend and went to Eastern Cape to track down my biological father!
I managed to track down the old man and his family and was introduced to those who are still alive.
They also took me to Middledrift were my dad was born and grew up, this is also were former NPA boss Bulelani Nqcuka was born, I was told as I was orientated around the area.
See some pictures of the trip attached…!

E90 Electric seats retrofit
Hi Guys
I searched on the forum but couldnt find anything regarding this. I have found some info on the internet but nothing concrete.
Two things I need to find out, I would like to install the electric memory e90 seats in my 330D which has the non electric seats in. What would I need to do it and is it possible.
Then my friend will be taking out his electric memory seats for me as he is putting in sparco or some racing seats. Would removing his seats not cause problems or any errors messages? I heard that some airbag error and some sensor error will come up if he removes them.
Thanks.

Potential BMW Owner
Hi
I am new to the forum, always come here to read about the great BMW Brand. I now have decided to make the move over to BMW (after having a terrible experience with an e46 325i Touring).
Soon to be owner depending on the assistance and comments of a BMW 530D

2009 BMW 530D
Hi
I know many a times the question has been asked about the reliability and maintenance costs of the e60 530d. I have read through many posts and not sure if I missed one that speaks specific to the 2009 model with the LCI Motor? If so, can someone please post a link for me, if not here are my questions:
1. Love the car but need to know if the gearbox is also a problem item on the 530d?
2. Was chatting to a friend and told him of the car - he says if I am only using it on weekends and for long trips, I shouldn't buy the car as it will suffer from injector leaks due to not being driven
3. I will never work on the car myself and was wondering what the major services could costs
4. Anything I need to specifically worry about?
5. Does the e60 suffer from the e46 and some e90 door locking/not opening issue
Thanks and appreciate any assistance
