Wanted to let the Horses run wild

I got really excited taking the M3 down as I have not spent much time driving her around and thought this would be an appropriate time to let the horses run wild, and the coast would be the appropriate place. Was I in for a surprise as I left the silhouette of Johannesburg in the rear view mirror at around 4pm, I was greeted with a horrifying site of the ‘AVERAGE SPEED PROSECUTION’ board at the first Toll. Oh was I pissed off as this just put a damper on the spirited driving I was contemplating.

I went down to KZN on Wednesday last week and travelled to PMB , Port Shepstone and then to Richards Bay and back up to GP on Monday. I then decided to make it and eco run and see what the results of A1exanders valve adjustments had churned out and obviously abide by the rules of the road. The average temp that afternoon on the N3 ranged from 12 degrees to 15 degrees. I had filled up the tank and now wanted to see how far I could safely stretch this tank of fuel. I had arrived at my first destination with a total of 495.4 km travelled and an estimated range of 263kms left on that tank.

I drove at speeds between 120km/h and 140km/h. I then left PMB and set a course to Port Shepstone, and as soon as I passed the Marian hill toll, I could not contain myself anymore, I switched on the M Sport button and it was alive (that responsive feeling us Gautengers rarely get to enjoy in a n/a M3 breathing coastal air).

After doing about 107 kms it had 77 kms to go on the range I filled her up at the Ultra-city on the N2 near Umkomaas, and then set off to Port Shepstone.

My trip to Richards Bay was all about enjoying the car, no more eco driving involved and just enjoyed the newly laid tar on the N2. I must say that after a round trip of 2000 odd kilometres I really enjoyed this car. I filled her up four times and used about three and a half tanks as the needle is sitting a lil more than half. Will be washed and cleaned this weekend and sent back to cave in waiting for the next road trip.

118i fluctuating power

Hey all,

Just bought a 118i M-Pack Manual - awesome car!

I always drive the car in Sport+.

However I find that sometimes there is alot more power (boost) - does anyone else find this? Its not weather or time dependent.

The car has 30 000km on it.

When there is less boost - you can still feel the turbo, and it dumps, but the pull is less.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Treadwear rating RFT's

Hi Guys,

So I fitted two new tyres on my e90 320d and noticed on the tread wear rating for the Bridgestone RE050A is only 140

meanwhile the Pirelli P Zero and P7 tyres which I bought have a rating of 260.

All my previous non-rft tyres on my Polo TDI (Pirelli's, Conti's, Nankang & Falkens) all had a rating of 300+

Why would they have such low ratings on RFT's or are they rated differently?

Hi all,

I like the original roof lining on my E46, which adhesive do I use that will not stain it or leave marks, is it possible to glue it back without stripping almost the whole interior (for example the seats) of the car. Thinking

Hennessey's 290mph, 1400bhp Venom F5 Will Be The World's Fastest Car By A Long Way
Hennessey has just revealed the successor to the record breaking Venom GT, and it's set to take the term 'road-legal' to its limits
By Darren Cassey, 06 August 2014

This is the new Venom F5, built by Hennessey Performance as the successor to its ballistic Venom GT. The Texan tuner predicts it will have more than 1400bhp - when the engine build is completed - which will eclipse the Venom GT’s speed records.

Named after the most powerful tornado on the Fujita scale, the new F5 should hit a top speed well in excess of the GT’s 270.49mph world record speed thanks to both power increases and reductions in drag. And all this from a road-legal hypercar.

[Image: screenshot-2014-08-05-at-17.40-53e109c1888e6.png]

Hennessey revealed that it has increased the size of the V8 engine’s twin turbochargers - the new F5 is expected to use the same block as the GT - while the fuel system and intercooler capacity have been upgraded to handle the extra stress.

When you’re trying to improve on a 270mph+ top speed, engine upgrades alone are not enough. The F5 hopes to fight the laws of physics by reducing drag coefficient from 0.44 to below 0.40, while still keeping a decent amount of downforce through underbody venturis, a rear diffuser and a retractable rear wing.

[Image: screenshot-2014-08-05-at-17.40-53e109c5861d2.png]

Gunning for the Venom GT’s incredible 0-200mph acceleration time of 14.51 seconds, Hennessey has managed to keep the F5’s weight to below 1300kg, a minor increase over the GT’s 1244kg weight. But it’s not all about driving fast in a straight line; the F5 has a quick-shifting single clutch paddle-shift transmission, as well as a manual for the brave. There’s also GPS-based stability and traction control systems to keep all that power reigned in.

The Venom F5 will officially be unveiled in 2015, with deliveries of the 30 production cars starting in 2016. Want one? Prices haven’t been revealed, but will be considerably higher than the Venom GT’s $1.2m (£710k) price tag.

e28 535i rebirth into custom e28

Hi guys,

I am going to post this up very carefully as i do not want to tread on any commercial toes here. Mods please let me know if i overstep any boundaries here...Ty

I have just purchased an e28 535i that has already had a s36b36 engine transplant completed.

My custom shop will be doing the work on the vehicle as and when we have some free time, and it will be a long term project.
The to do list is rather long on this vehicle and we have not sourced all the relevant comments as yet...

The list:
  • Tear the body down and complete the work on a respray commissioned.
  • Strip, refurb, and retrim the interior (including leather covering the dash) while installing e34 M5 seats.
  • Strip down and refurb all suspension, replacing bushings and other ear components as we go
  • Source and fit a MTechnic body kit. We are really struggling to get a line on one of these so if anyone low of any please drop us a message.
  • Refurb a set of MTechnic M-System 1 alloys (of original e34 M5)
  • Repair airconditioner and associated components
  • Complete a whole of vehicle systems check and repair all faulty components back to original working condition.

This is a scary one and is going to eat away at the clock like you wouldn't believe. We are really looking forward to turning this into a beautiful example of a custom e28

Meet the bullet-proof Merc S-Class
6 August, 2014 | by Vijay Pattni

http://www.topgear.co.za/news/mercedes-r...and-bombs/

If you operate in a position where you are likely to be shot at most violently – say, high-ranking government official, corporate bigwig, TOWIE producer – then please meet the Mercedes S600 ‘Guard’.

Essentially, it’s a bullet- and bomb-proof Mercedes – literally bomb-proof – that will prevent your body from developing nasty, painful holes.

It’s based on the latest generation of Mercedes S-Class, with a rather delightful 6.0-litre V12 engine up front developing an even more lovely 390kW and 830Nm of torque. And it’s no lightweight: though Merc won’t reveal the exact weight gain of the armoured S over the 2.2-tonne standard car, it’s safe to say all that extra security padding has added a few points. This car’s top speed is only 210kph…

But, of course, there is a lot of security on board. The bodyshell has had protective steel integrated between the structure and outer skin, there’s ‘splinter’ protection, and thick glass coated with polycarbonate on the inside.

Then there’s armour covering the entire underbody for the first time, providing extensive protection against subterranean IEDS. All in, this new S600 Guard has been certified for the highest level of ballistic protection, which is VR9.

VR9, if you’re wondering, means armour designed to resist rifle-fire from military weapons, a velocity twice that of handgun bullets, and resistance to splinters from hand grenades and explosive charges.

The S600′s suspension has been beefed up to handle the increased weight, too; the air springs at the front have been reinforced, while additional steel springs are used on the rear axle. The dampers are active, of course, and Mercedes has fitted larger brakes than the standard S-Class.

The ‘Guard’ also uses run-flat tyres with a monitoring system, allowing you and your ideas for the next hit reality TV show to escape up to a distance of 19 miles with damaged tyres, under fire.

It’s still an S-Class inside, too, so all the usual interior appointments apply. No word on price, but we imagine if you want one, money won’t really be an issue. So, this, or a specially protected, bomb-proof BMW 7-Series?

135i Out Of Motorplan

Hi guys,

I just want to find out how many of you have a 135 out of motor plan.

I have a 2009 135i with 58000 Km on the clock and I got a quotation to extend for another year for 14K. My problem is that during that period I will only service my car once as I don't drive it that often and ever since I've had it I have never had any major issues with it. In the last year they only did a service & changed the brake pads, so is it worth extending the plan?
