Hi BMWFanatics,

So I'm new here, and I have finally stopped procrastinating and have finally signed up.

A bit about me...

I am a graphic designer by trade, photographer by passion and a car nut at heart. I love telling automotive stories and I love attending events, with my camera, and posting them on http://www.hoodridesa.com. A friend and I run the online blog, dedicated to the South African car scene.

Just a few articles of what we do. (Note: this is not advertising for my blog or anything of that sort, this is to spread the word that we exist, and we are a non-profit collective doing this because we love cars, and taking photos of them.)

I am going to spend the next few days being intimate with this superb example of classic M power.
No turbos no plastic no driver aids just sheer driving pleasure.

Car is currently on a ridiculous 28xxxKms and smells new.

Bmw performance power kit / user profiles / mats

Hey all,

I just bought a 118i m pack. Enjoying it!

Going to ask a few questions here - whoever has suggestions or answers on any of these please chime in -

1) has anyone got the "performance power kit" from bmw? Seems to just be a chip? Cost approx? And what gains could I expect on the 118i?

2) I can't figure out how to upload a new user profile - I've been to the BMW website - but it's ambiguous - must I upload current profile or ? And what settings can be changed ?

3) I've seen a thread on here for original bm f30 mats purchased - anyone got the f20s? Cost?

Sorry for many questions

I just bought this car, I just couldn't resist the sound of the supercharger any longer.

Its a 2005 MCS, its needs a bit of tlc but so far I am loving this car!
I replaced the the 17" wheels with 16" X-lites and fitted new Pirelli P7 tyres, replaced the control arm bushes, now all that's left is the front strut mounts, and a good service.

This car is equipped with Xenons, full leather, climate control and a LSD.

polyurethane diff bush on e46 - some feedback

about a year ago i decided to replace the back diff bush on my e46 330d with a poly one, i kept destroying the stock item (and even the meyle hd ones) ok it has to be added that i always drive enthusiastic, i really enjoy the torque Bluebiggrin

this did the trick, the bush was rock solid and i did not really feel any extra vibration transmitted into the cabin.. a win/win situation i thought..

Friday past , coming up to a yield sign, i accelerated sharp in order to merge with traffic when i heard an almighty bang from the rear drivetrain.. pulling over and inspecting the damage i discovered that the bolt holding the rear of the diff through the poly bush had spectacularly failed.. this is a m14 high tensile bolt!

anyways, i have replaced it with a softer tensile bolt, a 8.8 to be exact (the oem item is stamped 10.9) , hopefully the softer bolt might be a bit more up to the task (since the bush is much less pliant)

point is though, there never is a free lunch is there.. making the bush less pliant transfers stress elsewhere and something else will eventually fail quicker...
i am still a fan of poly bushes though Rollsmile

Dyno runs Bmw 135i N55 Full Bolt On ( No meth )

Evening All,
Vehicle: bmw 135i N55
Just to share from stock to FBO results
Did a stock run and car made 235kw and 419nm
Car has bmw PPK2 and bmw performance exhaust and the run was on pump fuel. Expected more torque and little more kw but in stock trim felt very good.
Off to the dyno again with jb4 , DP, IC, chargepipe, CAI
Did a couple of runs but had lots of wheelspin on dyno
Anyways ended up with 287.5kw and 603nm on map5 and 280kw and 626nm on map 7 ( car was spinning and getting hot by then )
No Meth or Ethanol. Just pump fuel 95 with NF ultra mix (40litre mix)

Happy with the gains over stock although PPk2 doesnt give a bone stock figure

Rollsmile Rollsmile Rollsmile Rollsmile Rollsmile Rollsmile

The above smileys depict my exact reaction yesterday when a certain, kind hearted BMWFanatic handed me the keys to his few day old F80 M3. Firstly, thank you Babyboss for allowing me to drive your car. Your humbleness is greatly appreciated. Its not often someone you hardly know hands you the keys to his 1mil+ vehicle, heck anything for that matter.

Anyways, i had been nagging AK for some time to come visit him, he had been out of town etc and by coincidence he was available yesterday. Seeing that he lives down the road from the Dyno Venue, i had asked him to pop by.

Just as the last car was loaded onto the dyno, Yas Marina Blue drove in. There wasnt much of crowd, but everyone that was their was in WOW mode. The car was quickly surrounded by fanatics, Divio was in awe and started snapping away. The car is beautiful. I had seen a fellow fanatics in DBN, but at night. To be honest, i was not ecstatic about the colour until seeing it yesterday in sunlight. Although, still a little less glossy for me (i feel its a flat colour). Its blue, but those little gold sparkles just make it a whole lot special. To me, it was as if i was looking through the water of a clear blue ocean with the sand beneath sparkling into the sunlight.

The lines of the F80 M3 are aggressive, especially the front bumper. The huge air ducts on either side, that signature bulge on the bonnet and the carbon fibre roof. Not forgetting the M designed side mirrors. All nothing short of aggressive beauty. The stance is great on this car, although it could do with a bigger wheel. The wider fenders give it a sexy figure.

And then, Yas Arbee was handed the keys to Yas Marina!

I drove with AK in the passenger seat. Doc and Bilal jumped into the back. Started up and felt a little dissapointed, i expected a rumble or a bark. This was just, well, yeah its on!

DCT gearbox, engaged Reverse and turned the car. I must say, i am not use to the DCT gearbox at all but i got the hang of it quick. Especially as i needed to do a 5 point turn to get out of the parking lot.

As i drove out, Bernard335 was leaving so Divio snapped a couple a pics, i am sure he will post them up soon. I know he has one of me smiling from ear to ear.

Anyways, drove out of the complex and onto John Voster. Now, i must warn you, i dont have the money to replace this car so i drove it with respect. Also, being a few days old, with 150km on clock i didnt want to really man handle someone else's pride and joy.

Was in 2nd gear, pulled the car to 5000rpm, that instant feel of turbo power pushing you into your seat and then click to 3rd and she pops and revs more into the spot again. Click into and she just climbs up the speed levels. Literally, breathless!!!

From the dig, in 1. All necessary aids in check and switched ON. Feather the throttle and TC bites, car bogs and i change to second. I was feathering and TC was kicking in. Praise

Here is where my perception of where the exhaust changed completely. It barks, screams and shouts music to an enthusiasts ears. Even Doc said the sound and ease of driving makes him want to sell his F10 M5 for one of these. Literally, music to my ears. Windows were all up btw!

Through the gears, even at low speed in high gear she just picks up speed with ease. All this in comfort mode!!!

This particular one has and extra suspension pack (AK can confirm), didnt really get a chance to take it on bends but i did manage to make a U-Turn and power up as i got out of the turn, the car was well planted, i felt in control. Although it was not fast, the exit of the u-turn was executed with some increase in pressure from the right leg. All was good, she did exactly what i wanted her to, get out of their quick and easy.

I fell in love on the spot, one day, God Willing, i will own one!

The interior, Silverstone colour leather. Never seen it before but it really does compliment exterior colour well, i suppose its different as well. Those seats are dam comfy, when you jump in it grabs you and holds you tight. Probably a safety feature cos you need to be held tight in here. That feeling of safe and secure immediately wrapped around me.

Maybe Bilal and Doc can provide some info on the leg room and comfort from the back seat?

Again, a huge thanks to AK. You are a real gem of a person. Appreciate it.

Divio has a couple pics. Im sure he will share them.

Still Smiling!!!
Arbee
