Whining sound from the engine bay - I thought it was the turbo. Turns out it has something to do with the oil pump.

Car will be booked in for either an oil pump change or engine REPLACEMENT!!!

Anyone else had this issue?

Car was in for a week for FEM about a month ago. Very un-BMW like I think...

Big petrol price drop may be coming
New data by the CEF shows a current over-recovery of almost 70c for 95 octane fuel.
Staff Writer August 26, 2014

http://businesstech.co.za/news/general/6...be-coming/

The South African petrol price could be set for a sizable cut next in September, after data by the Central Energy Fund (CEF) showed a current over-recovery of almost 70c for 95 octane fuel.

On Monday (25 August), the CEF noted that lower international product prices – coupled with the slight weakening of the rand against the dollar – pointed an over recovery of 68.3 cents per litre of petrol.

Provided international prices and the current rand/dollar exchange remains stable over the next week, this means petrol prices could see its biggest drop in some time.

Lower octane fuel (93 ULP) has an over recovery of 62.7 cents, while diesel has an over-recovery of 19.7 cents and 19.9 cents for 0.05% and 0.005% grade, respectively.

Illuminating paraffin has an over-recovery of 18.1 cents.

Earlier in August, the Department of Energy left the price of retail petrol unchanged at R14.33.

Great Service and Follow Up

Hi Guys,

We live in a society where everyone likes to complain, but I believe that good service should also be recognised,

I was looking for a S65 Engine (E92 V8 M3) and was quoted a price but one of the salesman, however there seemed to be some miss communication and the incorrect price was quoted, so no big deal, started looking elsewhere. Got a call for Kai to say that he will do his best to try and accommodate me, which he did, despite the error by his salesman he honored the quote by just trying to supply HBS kit (Head, Block and Sump), which was still cheaper than any other supplier that I tried,

In the interim I had a falling out with the Mechanic trying to fix the car and did not buy the unit from Bavarian Auto,

Got a call from Kai this morning to find out the progress on the car and if all is well, this from someone who did not even get the sale and made not a cent on this....

Looking forward to doing business with Bavarian Auto in the future and will be a Volunteer Sales Rep going forward,

Well Done Kai and team at Bavarian Auto, you have a loyal customer

Regards
Shane

what goes into software remapping?

I have been enquiring different prices from different tuners for a software remap for my 320d lci. All give different prices with different power figures.

My question is, does the sw upgrade justify the price? Prices range between R3000 - R4500. Does that then include dyno time? or just the file that they upload to your ecu?

Please can some of the tuners help me here Fencelook

hi there. was just wondering if the R53's are OBDll Compliant? I want to get the Scangauge or ultragauge which gives boost pressure, rpm, and a whole other bunch of data from the OBDll Port. I know some cars have the 16 pin connector but still are not compliant, is the R53 OBDll?

Took my new M3 for some laps at Kyalami on Sunday

Gave the new M a few sessions at the track on Sunday. Didn't run the stock rubber or rims, ran some Toyo T1's which are much more slippery that the Michelin PSS's but wanted to save the Michelins.

Car felt really good and was happy to hammer out lap after lap, can get very loose in the corners and if you stay on it you can drive sideways with abandon.

Brakes started to soften a bit and got quite noisy but for standard road fair they held up well.

Very happy with it overall and loving the car!

Hi guys

rodga here - from the vwclub.....
some of you guys will know me from there

When I came up to Gauteng I had a neat 2003 G4 132kw gti. Not too long after that I convinced the old man to give up his 2004 e46 325ci. That was when I signed up here, had it for a short while and sold it in 2010 iirc just before the mplan expired. Still miss both cars though.

Late 2010 decided to buy another gti after searching for a year almost for neat and decently priced G5 - there were all over priced when I was looking and decided to get a new G6 instead. Its a great car. But my time with her is almost at an end. As I needed free up some cash, she has been up for sale for the last couple of weeks now. Just confirmation from the buyer that he wants to take it.

One of the pics I took for the for sale thread

Hopefully I find what Im looking for.

I must say Im quite impressed by all the recent events you guys are having, big ups to Arbee and the other guys behind the scene (sorry only know mrA from the vwclub). Heres to many more!!

Subwoofer problem

Hey guys. Lately I've been having a problem with my sub... Initially it was working on and off intermittently then one day it just went dead and refused to work like there was a loose connection or something. So this past weekend I pulled the sub out and found one of the pigtail wires that go from the terminals to the voice coil was a bit black. Hooked a 12v battery up to the terminals and nothing. Then I connected it further down the pigtail wires and it worked. So I put some solder over the black part and it started working again. But this morning it was intermittently going on and off again at moderate volume, but it worked perfectly this afternoon on my way home.

Is there a way to replace these wires? I thought about replacing them with thicker speaker wire, but a friend of mine who's an electrical engineer advised against that saying that it will have an effect on sound quality because those wires a the same wires used in the voice coil so there's a reason they used them. See pic of the wires I'm talking about.

A new beginning

Good Day guys. After having created the topic titled "Do you love your job?" on this forum. I have read all of the responses and was particularly touched by the response from Herr BMW where he felt that it was too late for him to start something new. I just want to let everyone know that it is never too late to start over and achieving your dreams.

I for one am still young, have always wanted to do something car related but instead I studied IT. Well today I did some thinking and have decided to enrol for a mechanical engineering course at a local registered technical college.

I have an 8 to 4 job currently which I really don't enjoy and I have decided to sacrifice my weekends and ask fellow members who own or are involved in car related fields like mechanics or panelbeaters to assist and me and let me be involved in their businesses without any sort of pay. This I am doing voluntarily as I want to learn as much as I can about the industry and how certain things work while still pushing my studies. I have never done any sort of mechanics or panelbeating and I want to learn and grow myself to be what I have always wanted to be. This of cause at no cost to anyone but me.

I am located in Joburg CBD but can travel in and around Joburg on weekends.

If anyone knows of something, I will be very greatfull if you assisted.

Settling for less is not an option. I will strive and become who I want to be. This is the mentality we should all keep.

Thanks

Compare quality and finish

I recently remarked on another thread which was exclusively for F30 owners how BMW's quality has gone out the window in search of weight saving as well as more profit.

By way of visual representation I invite you to compare the following:

7 year old design (or thereabout)

AND to add insult to injury they call it the ultimate driving machine......
