Spanish Police Bust Fake Ferrari Racket

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/10859...ari-racket

We see numerous replica supercars come and go, including some that could fool even an expert’s eye, but rarely do you hear of the cars’ builders being busted by the cops, despite the obvious copyright infringements and other breaches of the law that typically go hand in hand with replica supercars.

That wasn’t the case for the unscrupulous builders of these replica Ferraris, who were arrested and had the contents of their workshop in Valencia, Spain seized by the local authorities.

A total of 19 cars, most of them Ferrari F430 replicas, though some Aston Martin models were also present, were seized by police. Eight men were arrested and charged.

The cars were sold over the Internet and were priced from 40,000 euros (approximately $53,000), according to the police. There’s been no mention of what donor vehicles were used for the replicas but a Toyota engine can be seen in the image above, suggesting one of the vehicles may have been an MR2. The mid-engine Toyota is a popular choice among replica supercar builders.

The replicas themselves were made from fiberglass and featured highly detailed engine bays, the police said. We can see that Ferrari wheels and even Ferrari-labeled brake calipers were also copied.

What is a normal temp up in JHB? My 335 runs around 90/100 degree Celsius, normal 120km/h driving, when she gets pushed (NOT open road), she tends to go up to 120 degrees, but stays there. 2007, N54.

Hey Guys,

I most likely will be shot and stoned to death once agian for this hehe.

Ive been looking for a small second car for a while now and found a 2005 Opel Corsa Lite Plus AC at a dealer close to home. 100000km for R49,950. Placed a securing deposit on Friday so hopefully she'll be ready soon. ☺

As I student that has to pay this car on his own I would not be able to buy a Beemer and give her all the love and attention that she deserves. Maybe in a few years when I start working permanently I'll pull out an F30 for myself.

How long does a used car purchase usually take as my parents handled everything when they bought my Utility in Jan 2012 but that took 6 weeks because I wanted one of the last shape Corsa Utility's just before the new Chev Utilities were to be released so they had to search quite extensively to get it.

So on my 235 I would like a louder exhaust, so here is the choice I have to make. Bmw Performance exhaust, with the ac schnitzer downpipe. Or just the ac schnitzer exhaust both options would cost about R30k.

And then I would like to know what sound difference would the ac downpipe make being catted

As per the thread title, just curious as to who still listens to vinyl?Rollsmile

I was at an AV store last week and had a listen to some old vinyls that I have lying around at home and was so impressed with the dynamic range, openness and all round natural sound that I ended up placing an order for a Rega RP1 and some vinyl records off kalahariRollsmile Should arrive early next week sometime.

Product Rave and Review - Black Fire Paint Care Kit

$

Hey Fanatics Praise

A quick review regarding a product that came highly recommended by Pravin after my last visit to his shop Bravo

What is it?

I purchased the Black Fire Paint Care System from Pravin, the system consists of the following:
1. Black Fire Gloss Enhancing Polish
2. Black Fire Wet Diamond Paint Finish

What does it do?

The BF Gloss Enhancing Polish is designed as a pre-sealant polish/cleaner/preparation step - basically like an all in one (AIO) like Auto Finesse Tripple or Menzerna PP Ultra. The label on the bottle states that it removes traces of previous waxes/sealant/glaze in preparation for sealant application (you can't use this as a single step), also it is marked as a swirl remover with some filling capability.

The BF Wet Diamond Paint Finish is slated as a paint sealant that "creates a deep gloss that shimmers like water", is resistant to UV and IR radiation and is safe for all paint finishes. This is a Last Step Product (LSP) that is synthetic - ie it usually uses polymers and other synthetic substances to mimic carnauba wax, but gives increased longevity of the application.

How does it work in practice?

Today was my first time using this product - I was very impressed by the ease of use, along with the results.

I used it on Neeshlin's (4Piper) 135i - as some of you may recall, it had an OptiCoat 2.0 finish done to it around two months back, but had come back due to his sister's Golden Retriever having some fun and scratching the car along the passenger side of the car - from the boot till the bonnet. Also, the car had some marring and swirls that had to come off too.

Neesh's car with the OptiCoat only:

I honestly was not expecting much from the Black Fire kit - boy was I wrong! After having experienced what the OptiCoat can provide in terms of gloss and shine, I did not think it could get better. The Black Fire kit added and enhanced the shine immensely! I really wish I had taken before shots of this car - I really did not expect it to be enhanced as much as it was.

I haven't tried the Black Fire on a car that has not had OptiCoat yet, but watch this space for feedback on how that worked.

First up, I washed the car with Cyclo All Purpose Cleaner (APC). Once the car was dried, using a thick pile microfibre cloth, it was parked in my garage and the paint was allowed to temper a bit and let the temperature on the bodywork stabilise. I let the car stand for 15 minutes and got to work.

First up I used a Shield DAS-6 dual action polisher for the job, along with a white Lake Country polishing pad. The pad was primed using Quick Detailer and some BF Gloss Enhancing Polish. For each panel I used around 4 half-pea sized amounts of product, aside from the rear bumper, roof and bonnet, as there was a larger surface area to cover.

The Gloss Enhancing Polish itself is white, and is easily workable, not too thick or thin - easy to work with, and has a pleasant smell. I had the machine set at speed 2.5 and was working at about 2 passes per panel. I applied no pressure at all on the machine, and let it work mostly under its own weight. The product applied smoothly, and evenly - i worked it till it hazed up lightly and buffed it off with a microfibre. I immediately noticed the definition and gloss it added to the car. Whereas before it was very shiny without a lot of definition, the Gloss Enhancing Polish gave it so much more Inlove

I moved onto the Wet Diamond after doing the entire car in GEP. I hand applied the sealant using Auto Finesse Wax Mate applicators. The Wet Diamond had a runny consistency but was also very easy to work with and apply. It also had a pleasant, neutral smell to it. It's very easy to apply this product thick, so I was careful to apply it thinly and evenly. On application, I applied it to a haze and let it sit for a little before I buffed it off. The product was very easy to buff off after it hazed and produced very little to no dust.

The results:

As I said, I was not expecting anything extraordinary here, so I neglected to take before pictures. Big mistake on my part!

Here are some after shots:

The finish was amazing and delivered a lot more than was promised. Also, the Gloss Enhancing Polish removed the swirls and marring effortlessly! It also did an amazing job of filling in the deeper scratches left by the puppy.

All in all, this system is amazing! And would recommend it to anyone.

What does it cost?

For the kit in total, I paid R1,040.00 - it is at the higher end of the market, and rightly so, as this product delivers amazingly well! Praise

Big thanks to Pravin for his awesome service and product support Bravo

Also, over the next few weeks, I'll be doing some product comparisons so stay tuned Thumbs

Thanks for the read! Ty

Hi all

I'm trying to sell my car and I kinda remember a place where you could park your car in Cape Town (for a fee) on a field with other private sellers for buyers to look at. Does this still exist?

E36 Cooling System Help Needed

$

Olaz Fanatics .. so been helping my cuz work on her car .. its a 1996 E36 318i Motorsport 1..

her radiator needed a change for a while now, so she eventually got one from Silverton Radiators .. changed the Radiator .. filled her up with coolant/water mix as directed .. started car up .. ran fine .. but ... heres where problem 1 comes in ...
RHS hose gets moer hot .. LHS hose is ice cold .. therefore no water was flowing through .. we let the car cool down, stripped out the thermostat .. tested it in boiling water .. and well the 18yr old original part was expected, not working ..

since we were changing thermostat, i suggested to her we do the water pump aswell .. so i sourced a Bher Thermostat and Hepu Water pump with metal propeller ..

Saturday we got to changing the parts .. thank God we decided to change the water pump .. there was not much of the plastic propellers left on the original pump .. So all good and installed .. cleaned the engine up a bit .. filled up new coolant/water mix .. bled the system for air .. started car up ..... and exactly the same as last time .. RHS pipe gets very hot .. LHS hose is ice cold .. ( this is determined from standing infront of the bonnet looking at the engine .. ) so its the drivers side that remains cold ....

no we dono wtf is going on .. but noticed that the radiator fan starts spinning as soon as the engine starts .... is this normal?? ..... this is problem 2..
we unplugged the fan from the switch on the side of the radiator .. after about 5 mins, the hose on that side starts warming up, so this would mean that water is now flowing through .. plug switch back in .. 5 mins, that pipe is ice cold again ...
is it possible that the switch is faulty? thats the reason the fan is continously running?

any help and advice would be much appreciated .. Thumbs

CX99PP GP can I lay a charge against this idiot

The driver of this hair dresser car.. An audi a5 convertible goes into a turning lane only to speed up and not turn but turn in front of me in the going straight lane almost hitting me in the process... No indicators on... Nothing... Certainly not a case of " oh shit I'm in the wrong lane" because he came speeding from the back... The nerve then is to not apologise for blatantly a stupid stunt on the road and be all proud and look the other way

CX99PP GP... That's the number plate... It has some vinyl on the side representing some company

Can I lay a charge against this idiot? Having his number plate

If someone sees this car please let me know the company name on the vinyl sticker... Its a white audi a5 convertible

This happened on William Nicol towards fourways... Fair no one was killed or hurt and this happened in fairly dense traffic

We are often faced with cars that are sent into us for specific work, and as we start working on the car we a faced with a litany of other issues.

Such is the case in point with a 1985 BMW e24 635csi. This is one of my personal favourite cars and over the years I have been involved in a number of doomed projects. The last one was eventually scrapped as the body was so badly accident damaged that it was economically unviable to repair.

When this particular vehicle came in through our workshop we expressed our concern with the amount of unresolved issues with the vehicle. The vehicle was accident damaged and the front and rear bumpers were misaligned. The body was far from straight and the spray job (a horrific flip paint job) was amateurish at best. The client was adamant that the parts in the car were in “pristine” original condition, but on inspection this was really a thin veneer of adequate over a core of absolute rot. The best example of this was the speaker pods on the rear parcel shelf. The parcels shelf had been hacked apart by someone and then left to rot. The pods themselves had been exposed to wet and then left to warp horridly and irreparably. These parts are no longer in stock with BMW so in order to provide a workable base for the parcel shelf we eventually cast a fibreglass parcel shelf, stripped the pods to their rusted steel frame, treated and repaired the frames and finally covered this all with high grade acoustic carpet. It seems that since this was done there is now a nice grease mark on the panelFlyfun
[Image: DSC_0314.jpg]
Now this is just one example of hundreds of little (but significant) issues with the car. The client seemed to have little interest in fixing the car properly and after a extended period of time the car was offered to me to purchase.

Now knowing what I did about the car I was relatively hesitant to take on the project, but as this write-up clearly highlights that I did in fact jump in and purchase the vehicle. This was done for all the wrong reasons and frankly is going to bite me in the arse at some point.

We set about stripping the car to get a better understanding of the structural issues we were going to face and were very pleased to find that the actually body and forward structs are straight. The suspension was in atrocious condition, the motor was leaking in more places than we could count and the accident damage was limited to the bumper brackets being smacked on both sides of the vehicle.
Someone in the past had found the magic of Sikaflex and everywhere we looked we found trim pieces held on with Sikaflex and not panel clips.
The rear spoiler was affixed without the factory hard points and with a small mountain of sika and silicon. The resultant gaps had already started to cause corrosion.

From an interior perspective it seems that a monkey got hold of some spare wire and started running random jumps. The carpet is completely rotted away, the dash is was not installed correctly and pretty much every part of the interior had been attacked with by a buffoon with limited skill beside pulling and breaking out trim panels.

So where to from here?
I have bought an s38b36 motor for her, replacing the very poor condition M30. Every suspension component has been stripped, all available sacrificial suspension parts have been replaced and the rest have been sent for sand blasting, paint and finally every single rubber bush and seal have been replaced.
Have also procured a set of springs and matched shocks with a 25mm drop. I have traced and purchased M-technic kit (excluding front spoiler – which I am not fond off) and we have started fabrication on a custom front bumper.
We will replace as many of the damaged trim panels as we can and fabricate what is not available while retrimming the interior dash and other parts as necessary.

We have already stripped the engine bay and given it a coat of 2K black and are now working on doing the body prep for a colour change. An the chosen colour is not period correct, but at least BMW correct – Avus Blue.
There is still a long way to go. The most frustrating part thus far has been the discovery of rust on what i was told was a rust free car...
The end game.
The idea is to end up with a M635csi’esque car that has plenty of poke, looks the part and is a real head turner with a 100% solid core and an attitude to boot. This is my personal car so it will not be period correct and will sacrifice originality for my requirements. All in all this should be a monster build.
